I wonder what the pricepoint will be? If its around the $600 mark then its really only a short leap to something like the N95 (running at around $1000 on Trademe), which has rather a lot more functionality.

If you got to Apple NZ Store, it is priced at NZ$649 for 16GB. Not bad for a widescreen, touch, flash-based storage with Wifi. really put a dent on PDA-only device where it is stucked at 128MB rom/64MB ram at best...

$650 isn't a terrible price. For people who want a portable media player and have the cash it'll probably be a decent option.

For my money I'd rather pony up the extra $300 and get something along the lines of the N95 though (which of course I did). The extra money gets you A2DP and AVCRM (which I assume this doesn't have, given Apples use of bluetooth to date?), no DRM problems, better codec support via third party software (somefreeware options, or Coreplayer for a total solution), a 5MP camera, 640x480 30fps video, and TV-out on the media side of things, along with a decent pocket gaming machine, GPS, word/excel/powerpoint/PDF/calender functions and a host of other functions via third party software. The convergence factor is also worth factoring in I guess, since almost everyone who gets one of the these new iPods will already be carrying around a cellphone. To me $300 doesn't seem like bad value for money for what you get, but of course many other consumers will either disagree, not have the means to shell out another $300, or be ignorant of what else is out there.

Thanks for that. I was trying through apple.co.nz.

According to that site the 16gb Touch will be $649. Taking the exchange rate into account including postage its $40 cheaper to get it sent from USA. Depending on timelines I might just wait for a NZ release.

Very much so, Considering before Apple official brought its store to NZ, a 60GB iPod 5G was about $720(I think)

Apple US do not ship outside of the US, and Actualy you will notice that no matter what store you order from, they all ship from China.

The iPod Touch is Shipping worldwide on 28th of September, You cannot currently get it in the US, nor anywhere else in the world.

Unless of course you buy From a US reseller, which would not only take longer than buying directly from the New Zealand Apple store, but you would have to pay taxes as i am certain that what ever it costs, the tax amount will be more than $50.  Not to mention you would go without a Warrenty.

My advice is wait for Apple NZ store... easiest and safest.. and not too much more expensive... *$70 difference when compare to US# for 16GB Ipod Touch after exchange rate.

Sorry, I have not had time to watch the keynote yet.

Is there any information on what headphones come with it?

I was going to wait until I got the email from Macrumors with the keynote link... But I got too excited and just went to their site anyway.

Oh, just saw the price drop on the iPhone - nice! But what does that mean for the iPod Touch? Similar argument to why I'd get an N95 instead of an iPod Touch, but even less difference in price point (less difference in functionality too, but same principle).

You would get an iPod Touch because of
A: You don't live in America.
B: You already have a competant phone
C: You need more than 8GB of space, but like the idea of touch screen

We all know there is iPhone unlocks out, but we are in a Forum called Geekzone.  The average consumer will not know what unlocking is etc.

The "average consumer" bit is really the point behind point A, isn't it? Its probably also the point behind point B to a large extent. Point C is definitely one that non-average consumers will share in common with the garden-variety though.
