Last report I read had Apple making $US400 profit on each iPhone sold. The retailers margins are slim, Apple's are not.

This will certainly make me rethink my upgrade later in the year.
The idea of spending $1500 to get the 128gb model (or more flr the iphone 6+) is just repugnant.

Same. I have always upgraded every two years at a cost of $1149. Now I'm probably looking at having to pay an extra $100 if I upgrade at the end of this year and it's feeling like it's too expensive to bother.

Simple don't buy the 128 GB model

The margin they make on the higher end versions is insane as a non apple shareholder. 100 or 150$ or whatever it is to go from 64GB to 128. Ridiculous. But people with more money than sense will buy it because its there

Actually people like myself want the larger capacity because we use it. Music, videos and photos along with the numerous apps, documents etc i store on my current iphone means i have everything i need/want with me when i want/need it on one device. Currently 64gb isinsufficient for this.

Not the first instance an Apple product increased in price after launch. Same can't really be said with other competing product lines

Pay the money or buy another phone whose manufacturer decides it is a better idea to allow users to have a mSD expansion slot.

64GB mSD is a lot cheaper than 100-150

Videos are the thing that use the space obviously especially when you can't stream when offline on a 12 hour flight etc.

Users are not rational

Especially those that choose to obfuscate the outright purchase price, by paying 2x the price to rent to own it over a 2-3 year phone plan term.

Since when did price stop people purchasing Apple products?

If it did, we'd see everyone buying Acer e-machines, telco branded handsets etc.

There has to be a line drawn somewhere. Would you pay $2000 for an iPhone? $5000?

Yes agreed there is a tipping point. Apple are cunning at working out what the market will bear.

They do seem to be heading in the direction of turning themselves into a luxury brand

Look on the bright side, that beautiful new 5K retina macbook looks like a relative bargain at a measly $1999 buy in

After seeing this I whipped down to 2degrees store and purchased a 64g iphone 6 at the old price, so in my books my phone just increased in price before I even took it out of the box

wellygary: Yip, as part of their apple watch launch yesterday, Apple tweaked their international pricing on a number of thier product lines,

looks like macbooks, and iphones got a price bump,

Pretty much everyone got bumped, as the US dollar has risen against most currences, It included Europe, canada, Aust+NZ + others

No, there was no price increase.

Why are Samsung phones similarly priced to Apples on release?
