Whats wrong with 200mb from $29.95, 1GB from $49.95, or 3GB from $69.95, all with the option of knowing you can double the usage for $10.

Panq: Sorry guys. I was just just exaggerating to point out how a huge number of people who could afford an iPhone probably couldn't afford a decent data plan for it.

Even if it costs $NZ2000 when it finally gets here, the initial purchase is going to be fairly insignificant if Vodafone doesn't release some vastly cheaper data plans...

If you look at the high end VODAFONE handsets now the top of the pile are retailing for about $1500.00 I would think that it would be hard for them to be going over this for the simple fact that APPLE will formalise some form of agreement to get there units into the market at a competetive price ... the reality will be depending on what plan you choose will determin what price you pay if at all ... but I would suspect the iPhone in NZ would retail with no plan attached for the $999.00 mark IMHO

But this isn't the way Apple seem to be taking the iPhone. They're locking it to one provider where-ever they can, and stamping all over that provider to get what they want (video voicemail, wi-fi minutes, and unlimited data tariffs for example), then stamping all over the consumer to lock them into incredibly long contracts.

Things are quite different here though - consumers have already been bullied and are seemingly quite happy to sign up to 18/24 month contracts, and even pay for their phones on top of that!!!! It's just Vodafone that need to be bullied really, and I think the unlimited data tariff could be a sticking point for them and Apple, and let's be honest - who needs to sell the iPhone more in NZ - Apple or Vodafone? Definitely Vodafone, so it will be interesting to see what plans they come up with.

I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't come to New Zealand at all, but if it does then I reckon it would be incredibly expensive, because the other phones on the market have some value.

It's not how it's been done before, and the iPhone needs a plan - otherwise people would be paying too much for casual data.

An unlocked iPhone costs €999 in Germany. That's around NZ$1940.

See here: http://apcmag.com/7588/breaking_unlocked_iphones_now_officially_available_in_germany

Don't expect it to be as cheap as a locked one sounds to be...

Yep, the unlocked ones will still have a place. A thousand euros, man that is steep, too much for the iPhone I'm afraid - it simply isn't worth it for that kind of money considering what you're getting compared to a number of other offerings.

The unlocked iPhone in Germany wasn't released as a viable option for customers, it was released to get the out of trouble with Vodafone (Didn't work though) and they are quite aware that no-one will buy the unlocked phone because the price is so high (That was their plan anyway)

Don't forget that a Unlocked iPhone will be sold in France when they release it over there,I suspect for much cheaper than the T-Mobile version.

Also, If Vodafone needs the iPhone in NZ more than Apple, then it should be under Apples pricing, and I beleive that it will fit under Apples pricing scheme, not Vodafones.? In reality its more of a Apple product by nature than a Vodafone one, (just look at the ATT version, it's not really marketed as a ATT handset, more of a Apple product)? I beleive that it will more than likely fit with Apples pricing scheme and go on sale at $650.

Apple in Germany sells its products at 1 Euro = 1 USD, this is true for every iPod product, as well as the iPhone.

I think Apple follows a pricing pattern and that they will not defer from it.

$650 would be a pretty nice price - that would be on a plan I take it?

Personally I think it would need to fall at around this price-point in New Zealand. At that price point its very attractive, but go much higher and its much less so.

It would have to be, I can't see Vodafone being able to revenue share on a prepay account.

But then again New Zealand is a completely different market and they may struggle to get the numbers required if it was attached to a plan.

Who Knows!

Its probably in Orcons hands anyway :S

And who knows what they will do!?

Sure will be interesting, will make quite a splash for Orcon if they enter the mobiles market here in NZ.

Lord knows there are plenty of people looking for any excuse to change from Vodafone and Telecom, an iPhone would actually be a good excuse.

If your missus is a techhead like mine you'll  have to get her one or there will be mutiny (had to get an N95 for my Fiance back in April when I got mine or life would have been unbearable Laughing).
