Because I don't want to pick one up until its retailing in NZ officialy through a carrier and Apple, I'm wondering what the likely price will be.

Going buy basic calculations, Apple Charges 1.6 times the US price here in NZ (ie NZD650 iPod touch/USD400 iPod Touch = ~1.6)

This is true for all over iPod products, So I assume it will be similar for the iPhone.

Does that mean $650-700 in retail?

Because wow, Thats cheap!

:-D

I am sure an average kiwi family with a 30-40 thousand NZD income per year will not share your opinion. Wink

Cheap? At that price it had better be able to PXT by the time it gets here. No 3G is a really really dumb move too....

Seriously though, that price would be okay if it becomes useful here. Right now, the data usage alone would cost more than that per year on any reasonable plan ($600 per year on 1GB/month with 24 month contract, for example).

Well, 10-20k a year, Cellphones should be the least of your worries.

To me, $650 is a pretty nice price for the iPhone. I would pick up two at that price (one for me, and one for the other half)

I don't use MMS, and exchangeable batteries are only good for Phones with terrible batteries.

Considering there are still many midrange phones in that price bracket (aka Nokia 6275) the iPhone is not that ZOMGMANIDOLARZ!

I very much doubt the iPhone would be that cheap, more like $1000+. For that much money you are better off with something like the HTC Titan. It runs circles around the iPhone (which given it's stone age specs isn't a real phone now anyway)

I think Aloha wrote 30k - 40k...

Although it is still an income bracket that would probably worry less about mobile phones than food, I think other posters deserve people read their posts and quote them correctly.

As a student mooching off the government, I make quite a lot less than $10k/year, and if I weren't obsessively saving as much money as possible, I could easily afford a thousand-dollar phone and big data plan. It just depends on what your priorities are, I guess.

What did you fix exactly? You changed 30-40 to 10-20?

The average NZ salary is 667 NZD per week, which is 34684 NZD per year.

Macuser wants one for him and his missus.
No one can agree about income levels.
Aloha is adament.
Brad has doubts.
Panq mooches.
Tony wants PXT.
Mauricio needs food.
Moby is being serious.

iPhone pricing if/when it hits our shores is a complete unknown.

This is a go nowhere thread if ever I saw one...

If someone else wants to press the big red 'lock' button, I dont mind taking the blame...

A iPhone?

I personally think its a great new perspective on something that no one expected.

It's not the only touch screen only device obviously, but I beleive that it's the best so far.

Lack of Qwerty keyboard did worry me a little bit, but I think that I will be able to learn how to use the keypad to my advantage.

Lack of 3G is not really a problem until I find something I want to use it for.

I think that it will force other manufacturers to change the way they think about mobile devices, hopefully for the better.

It will be interesting to see where the industry will be in 2-3 years, I can't wait!

Disclaimer : I prefer simplicity/design over Features

So back on topic, Disregarding Income, and peoples thoughts about the iPhone, How much do you think the handset will cost in retail?

Sorry guys. I was just just exaggerating to point out how a huge number of people who could afford an iPhone probably couldn't afford a decent data plan for it.

Even if it costs $NZ2000 when it finally gets here, the initial purchase is going to be fairly insignificant if Vodafone doesn't release some vastly cheaper data plans...
