gmanp: ...and Apple just cancelled my order.

I have exceeded "quantity limits per customer".

What did you order?

How can you exceed quantities per customer or did you order more than 1? U.S. Or AU?

Did you arrange delivery to YouShop in Portland? That's what I did last night, and I got the exact same cancellation email this morning: "We are unable to process your order as it exceeds the quantity limits per customer. As a result, we've cancelled your order and you will not be charged."

I called their support number (+1 800 692 7753) free via Skype. The person I spoke to said that the order had been cancelled because there was an "Apple Watch limit of two per household", from which I inferred that a lot of YouShop orders had been placed and that they'd all been automatically cancelled in an anti-scalping sweep.

I asked if they could reinstate my order as it was genuinely just for me, and that deliveries going to that address would definitely be from many different customers.

She then offered to create a new order, but said that delivery now wouldn't occur until June at the earliest. Assuming that, if I went with that option, it would probably just get automatically cancelled again anyway, I politely expressed my disappointment and asked if there was anything more she could do. After discussing it with her manager, she said that my order would be escalated to upper management and may be reinstated with the original shipping date intact.

tl;dr: If I'm successful in getting my order reinstated, I'll let you know so you can try the same!

Yes, YouShop Portland.

How did you explain the on-ship service? I would think that they would just say "we don't support that" and leave it at that.

Just one watch, but there would be many orders going to YouShop so more than two "per household".

Got the same cancelation for my order that was through Youshop. Really doubt they will re-instate orders. They seem to be doing that with all orders sent through forwarders. Probably based on seeing lots of watches being ordered to the same addresses.

Mine got cancelled too, I placed the order a little late however.  Never had issues shipping out of the US Apple store to youshop.  But in this case since there is a limit.

I'm travelling in April, June and July. Will see how it goes, as would rather pick one up than to use a forwarder/delivery method

It didn't come up. If it does, I guess I'll find out whether or not they have a policy regarding on-ship services, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't. It's a valid US address and I used a valid US credit card, after all.

At any rate, that's not why the order was cancelled. My task is therefore to convince them that I'm a genuine individual customer and not someone trying to game their pre-order programme in order to profit off the restricted short-term supply of the Apple Watch. We'll see how that goes.

Result: thwarted.

I received another email this morning. "We have reviewed your request to reinstate your order. The total number of products you have ordered has exceeded the maximum quantity per customer." This isn't literally true, of course, but the message from Apple is clear: there's an order threshold in place for YouShop, so if lots of people order the same limited-supply product at the same time, expect a cancellation.

Anyway, I called up their support line again and asked to use another address (a US-based friend). After sitting on hold for a long while, I was told that the only thing I could do was to place a new order, because my friend is outside Oregon so sales tax would apply. Meaning I'm looking at a June shipping date at the earliest.

Now I'm wondering whether to place another order or just wait until they're released here. There's not yet been any word on the latter, has there?

I've done the same but via an Aussie friend.

I figure if there is an announcement about NZ release, I can cancel the Aussie order.

I didn't think of that. Genius! I've just placed a new order on the US Apple Store and will keep my cancellation finger primed. Thanks for the tip.

I received yet another email this evening:

"We are unable to complete your order. We do not ship to freight forwarder addresses. Therefore your order has been cancelled. While you may see a pending authorization on your account, you will not be charged and that pending authorization will drop off in accordance with your banks policies. Please contact your bank for an exact timeframe."

Unambiguous!

Yeah, I got the same cancellation email.

It nearly gave me a heart attack as I thought they were cancelling my second order (via my Aussie friend).

Lesson learned - next time, don't try YouShop for a big Apple product launch.
