Just tell them to get spotify and be done with it. No need to have a music library taking up room on the phone when you can just stream whatever you want whenever you want.

.... except for when there's no wifi or data available - eg on a plane? Or if there's no wifi and you don't want to spend data on streaming for some reason. I keep a heap of music on my iPad and Android phone for emergencies/unusual situations - but admittedly hardly ever use it because streaming.

You can download spotify tracks and play them when offline.

Yeap the mix of iCloud Music Library and Apple Music and your regular from iTunes music in one app does not make for a clear system IMO. BTW in her case her music will be in the iCloud Music Library but not actually downloaded on the phone.

She asked me to help but "I dont do Apple" gets me off the hook every time. Thanks, I will let her know. So she needs to not use the cloud and just use Apple Music will sort her out?

Apple Music is their new spofity like service, I find the UI crap. Turn off Apple Music and iCloud Music Library then sync with an iTunes library for the keep it simple approach.

I get practically unlimited free data and I still prefer not to stream. Higher bitrate stored music 4tw.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

nah, with spotify you can also download tracks for 'offline listening' so you can have the best of both worlds.

Except you must download it in advance so that means knowing what you want to listen to.

This is not a thread for discussing the merits of streaming vs traditional music, it's to address a specific issue

I have had problems with music on my iphone that sound similar. Generally it is linked to how the music is synced onto the phone, something about changes to the library - genius playlists can cause it as can itunes match (they run a matching sorting process which if interrupted often corrupts playlists somehow).

What worked for me was connecting to itunes via a cable. Unclicking sync music, then syncing to remove the music. Remove cable reattach, turn on sync music, re-sync.

It is painful...and might need to be done a couple of times.
