StarBlazer: My daughter has saved up to buy an iPhone 6s. Looking at the cost of replacing screens and the possibility that it could happen (still at high school), is $229 AppleCare worth the money? I understand there is still a $169 fee for any repairs but together that is still much cheaper than the full cost of replacing the screen. Yes we have home insurance but there's the hassle and excess to contend with.

What are your thoughts and experiences?

Slightly off topic.... but do check the storage she's getting. 16GB is criminal on iPhone and fills so fast it's not funny. 32GB is the absolute minimum for these devices to be truly useful - and of course back up stuff.

Re insurance.... well, I've found most teenage girls protect their phones dearly in a way you cannot comprehend. But def get a good case and strong screen protector, unless you know she will be prone to dropping it and causing damage.

i buy it for all my apple products, one phone call gets a replacement unit out within 2 days(sometimes even 1 day), pretty much no down time

have replaced a few iphones and a apple watch just the other week

hassle free repairs in my book which is worth the money

I have it for my iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

It is my insurance rather than an extended warranty.

I'm assuming you are responsible for the payment for freight of your broken device back to Apple?

Thanks for all the comments and replies. Personally not an Apple fan, but teenage daughter is and going for the 64gb version. I think we may end up relying on the contents insurance, which she will have to pay the excess and suffer the consequence of being without a phone for however long it takes to fix.

A few mentioned strong screen protectors, any recommendations and rough ideas of cost? As for the cover, probably something fashionable, I'll keep out of that discussion!!

Procrastination eventually pays off.

Nope, with apple care you get express replacement

They send you a new product with a return shipping bag. You just pop your broken item back into the box and return it via the shipping bag they included

All free if the product is faulty otherwise you pay the accidental damage excess.
