I've had several from three different brands in the last few years and they only ever go 'missing' when the other family members borrow them... not a single one has broken yet!

Do you find your idevices reject them for not being "official" cables? I go through the PQI ones like crazy because my son uses his iPad a lot to Skype his friends and play Pokemon Go, and they're constantly plugged in and getting bent back and forth. It's costing me a fortune, so I'm very keen to find something that lasts a bit longer. Is there a particular brand you get from AliExpress? I see the range is extensive.

Would something like these magnetic charging cables work for you? Look quite nifty but can't say I've tried them so can't comment on the quality though.

Quick update.

I finally (just over a month from AliExpress) got the new NOHON iPhone cable and it looks and feels pretty nice. It's nice that it is longer than my Belkin cable. I like the Velcro wrap to keep the cable nicely organised. The packaging is basic but better than just a plain zip-lock bag.

However there is one major problem that I did not even think of...... the lighting cable plug is larger than the opening of my LifeProof iPhone case so it won't fit. Doh!

I was hoping I could find a very short (10cm) lighting male-to-female extension cable.

My Belkin cable didn't last as long as it should have in my opinion, which I paid $40 for. If I can get something for a 1/4 of that and it lasts as long or even 50% as long, I'd still be winning (as long as its MFi certified)

I'm just waiting on delivery of a couple. They were listed as MFi so fingers crossed - my son's iPad Mini 4 can be a bit temperamental about accepting third-party cables. It even rejects the PQI ones sometimes. It'll be interesting to see how robust they are. He normally goes through cables every 3-4 months because he uses the iPad plugged in a lot and the cable gets bent back and forth at the lightning end. If this trial is successful I'll order a pile more!

It took longer than expected to dispatch (two weeks). Ordered it on the 2nd September 2016 did not get dispatched until the16th September 2016.

I sold the Nohon to a work colleague and got a 2m Lighting to USB Cable from Dick Smiths and it fits my iPhone 6S with the LifeProof case.

Mine are still going well 2 months later, no issues with MFi and I also do a lot of reading while plugged in so picked a 3m braided lightning cable and find its awesome not to have to get that 'yank' when I turn away from the plug side to do something.

I only ever get that "unsupported Accessory" notice if the other end is unplugged or switched off anyway?

Good to know! We don't get the unsupported accessory message on the iPad Mini, it will just refuse to charge. Plug in an Apple cable and it's fine. If it does charge with the PQI cable it tends to connect and disconnect a lot, making that little charging tone every time. Very annoying. At first, I thought the iPad was broken but it doesn't do it with a genuine cable plugged in.

Perhaps the non original cable you have had too thin wires inside, or a faulty connection "hot join" as both of those cause a voltage drop and can prevent the device charging? Much more notable on an iPad as they need higher voltage/apps to charge properly anyway...

Nohon cables arrived today. I like the wee light that tells you when the device is charging and when it's fully charged. I love the braided cable. It feels far less likely to bend sharply and break the wires inside, but I guess time will tell! So far no issues on an iPad Air and iPhone 5. I've yet to try it on my son's iPad mini, which is both temperamental and also has a rather chunky UAG case on it (it's at his grandparents' house at the moment) but I hope it'll fit, since he's the one who needs the braided cable the most.

My advice,

I purchased this, cheap as for three genuine cables aswell. Up to you though. There are many cheaper offers out there but these came super fast, espically since the shipping is so cheap.

Well, the Nohon cables seem to work fine with my son's iPad. What's great is that the moulding on the cable at the lightning end is such that it almost perfectly matches the moulding on his UAG case, so I can plug it in without issue and it holds the cable steady without it wiggling back and forth in the charging port. I'll definitely be getting more of these as our other Apple cables wear out/break.
