Over the years I bought cheap eBay iPhone charging cables which end up only lasting a few months. Then I witched over to using Belkin brand but they only last about 1 year to 18 months before the outer sheathing starts to peal back exposing the wires.

Now I've been told to get some quality ones which are also longer than the standard 1~1.2 meters.

What can you recommend?

Haven't used this length, but have several of the shorter ones and found them very well made.

The best ones I've bought so far are ones branded 'shroom' from The Warehouse. They are definitely a better build quality than the Apple ones, with much stronger moulded joints where the cable joins the socket. I have had three of them for over a year and they're still very nicely in one piece.

You guys are too rough! Ive never had a bad cable, I pull mine out holding the sheath, whereas anyone else I see pulls the cable.

I have commented the same in the past, however the one in my car is having this issue, it is a genuine Apple one. I always grip the plug it self to pull it out yet it is still coming away.

That said it is one out of 8 that I have, or have had.

Every other USB cable in the world can be safely pulled out by the cable without falling apart. Lightning cables should be no different.

Go for a braided sheath one from AliExpress, $3-$5 delivered.

I've had several from three different brands in the last few years and they only ever go 'missing' when the other family members borrow them... not a single one has broken yet!

Do you find your idevices reject them for not being "official" cables? I go through the PQI ones like crazy because my son uses his iPad a lot to Skype his friends and play Pokemon Go, and they're constantly plugged in and getting bent back and forth. It's costing me a fortune, so I'm very keen to find something that lasts a bit longer. Is there a particular brand you get from AliExpress? I see the range is extensive.

I bought "Nohon" branded ones on a special for about $2.90 ea. delivered.

They have a very good end termination, and seem really ruggedly built.

Only negative for me is the LED is quite bright for a bedside charger (but excellent when I was playing ingress in the dark and linked to a battery pack πŸ˜‰)

The cheapest I could find was this one on eBay.

I'm another Nohon fan. I've had my cables for over a year and they all still work perfectly. I paid around 5 USD per cable on Aliexpress. I've never seen them as low as $3. It looks as though they've changed the cables slightly, they no longer have the "N" on them, most just have a dot.

I usually go with the seller with the most orders/reviews on Aliexpress. So I'd go with this seller at 6.08 USD ($8.34). The cables on that listing are 1.5m, there are shorter ones available as well.

Good to know! I see they're listed as MFI as well, which is good.

Yes, I bought mine on AliExpress too, several stockists have them around the $5 mark at present, so I guess that's where the price works out for the seller. Interestingly I went back over my order list and the seller I bought them from doesn't stock them anymore.

Well I've taken a punt on the NoHon brand USB lightning cable from AliExpress.

The major issue as to why cables are failing, is to the computers are on the floor. The 1M cables are being stretched from the PC to the desk putting extra strain on the connections at both ends. This was one of my original requirements of longer cables.
