99% of barcode scanners are a laser that can't read LCD screens which makes apps such as this pretty much useless.

Are the AirNZ scanners not laser? I'm thinking the check-in kiosks and the gate scanners. And I always scan my phone at the movies too? Or am I just linking a red light with lasers?

Some modules are both LED 2D Imaging + laser. Others are one or the other. Lotto use similar, 2 lenses that cross reference the image with LEDs lit from the edges

Some Samsung devices have the beaming service for Samsung, which allows for beaming barcodes to 1d laser scanners

I also use Stocard. Use airpoints “card” at Mitre 10 as they recently updated their scanners to scan phone screens. (Alas they don’t have payWave though) and club card at new world followed by Apple Pay to pay. Don’t have to take my wallet at all into the supermarket now.

I suspect that the highly reflective mobile screen is blinding the laser with its own reflected light, and the signal to noise ratio is too low.

I use BeepnGo on my Samsung, and while not 100% perfect at being readable by the various scanners, the successful hit rate feels close to 9/10..

I had beepngo (since discontinued I think) but ended up using a low tech method to reduce the number of loyalty cards in my wallet.

I simply photocopied the barcode and tapped in onto one card. Using both sides of a card I can get 8 barcodes or more if I shrink the barcode when printing it out.

Sometimes have to cover the other barcodes with finger when scanning though but other than that it works a treat.
