Davy:  - check for 32-bit apps by going to Settings --> General --> About --> Applications which will list the 32-bit apps if you have any installed.

Under "Applications" it says "279". I'm fished.

I must have none as I can't tap on Applications at all.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

you likely have an iPhone 5c which is 32bit. Sell it asap.

What annoys me is that some app developers may have taken advantage of this.... by selling the 32bit version, now they are selling the 64bit version as a version 2 of the software, so you have to pay again.

The only affected app on my phone is the Symptom Checker app from Healthline.

I don't ever seem to get anything worse than a common cold, so I just deleted it!

Yep, I see three apps I forgot I even had and haven’t used at all since I upgraded my phone in Feb this year... no worries :)

*edit - and trying to open one on the latest IOS11 beta says “the developer of this app needs to update it to work on IOS11”

I wonder if then app creator gets a ping for each person who tries to use their app and they wait for a ‘critical number’ before bothering to do so? Especially for paid apps... they already have your money anyway?

The function was momentarily available after removing three 32bit apps on my phone but I see now it's not a menu.

Goodreader is a classic example . . . was not cheap.

So, a while back they released goodreader 2, which is equal to the first for what I used it for.

So, now goodreader1 is obsolete I am forced to shell out for goodreader2!!!

Why can't they just recompile goodreader1 into a 64bit executable?

If it's an expandable menu then it'll list your 32-bit apps. If it's not tappable then all your apps are 64-bit.

Not the most intuitive user interface...

I wonder who they get to design the OS. It feels like they get the most OCD person on the highest dosage of meds to design the OS, then get a fella from the high confinement unit to tweak it, then it's released to the public. That way the OS have zero slack.

My first ever iOS game that I bought and installed, "Flight Control" is a 32bit app... It's remained a favourite for some time now...

I didn't realise it was 32bit before updating... guess I'll have to find another go-to casual game...

My only other casualty was "World Lens" which used the camera to translate. I've actually used this with success "for real". I've replaced it with the Google Translate App and that looks pretty good at first glance and some quick testing (i.e. googling for some foreign language signs etc on the PC and pointing the phone at them).

If they were smart, they would release a new version under a different version number or name, to get people to repay for it. No different really to normal software updates for regular software. It can’t be good business to provide free updates forever.

Plus Apple don't allow or cater for paid upgrades
