Those that have one now, can you confirm you still have to swipe away the lock screen with Face ID?
Can this be turned off so it goes straight to the home screen after detecting your face and unlocking the device?
Seems a bit silly that you still have to swipe up to get the home screen after Face ID has done it’s thing.

Yes. You still need to swipe up to get to the home screen.

Otherwise the phone would unlock every time you made eye contact with it.

Makes perfect sense, but on reflection, isn't that a good thing?

I can pick up my iPhone 7+ and just have a finger on the Touch ID and by the time it’s in front of my face it’s unlocked and ready to use, no other swipe or clicking required.
You can turn this on or off, so you still need to click the home button.
Should be the same option with Face ID.

All I can say is that on paper it may seem like it is slower to open the phone, but in reality it the whole process feels faster. Swipe up very quickly becomes second nature. I do like that it opens lock screen first.

Benjip:

I have a week or so to wait but in the meantime have ordered:

- silicon case from Apple - here Wednesday

- Choetech Qi wireless charger for $37 (incl. shipping) from the offer here on GZ - here today or tomorrow.

- Spigen twin-pack tempered glass screen protector for NZ$21 (incl. shipping) from Amazon - delivery 1-2 weeks. (A local retailer is selling single-pack for $40).

Will be with you tomorrow if you ordered before 12pm today :) !

@Benjip Didn't arrive yesterday but this morning the courier forged my signature and left it in our letterbox. Is that how it's meant to work? Are you happy with that approach?

Cheers

Thank you for the feedback! I will check with Castle Parcels what their rules are around this. I assume their drivers have some discretion about when they have ATL but I totally understand if you weren't happy in this instance.

Mine arrived this morning also.

I note that the charging doesn’t work through the full wallet case but does through the magnetic phone holder part.

No issue and so far seems to work well.

Some reviewers in particularly imobile are telling people only to buy it if you are rich. Whilst he said its amazing it is truely a phone for the rich as many of the features you are paying for are totally not necessary.

“A handful of users”, “unclear how widespread the issue is”, (and for the cold weather issue) “software fixable”.

Yeah it's weird that they can fix the cold issue with software.

Also you do need to swipe up after waking up the screen and faceid unlock. But it's similar to using touchid and then moving your thumbs towards the screen to interact with the icons so it's really awash.

I experienced the cold issue yesterday - funny enough it was only around 13 degrees so it wasn't THAT cold but basically I was trying to send a text message and the touchscreen wasn't registering some of my touches - I'd say about 1/3rd were being ignored. Sleep/wake the phone plus exiting the app from the switcher and reopening it resolved the issue. Strange how this can be fixed with a software update.
