I've had every iPhone since the 4. A few iPads along the way. Each upgrade I backed up. Restored to the new iPhone, sweet. I got an X a while back, it would not restore. Seems from the error that iOS could not be restored due to the version. Being later on the X than what was on my 6+. Never had that before. (I dont think as I never tried to ensure the old phone was upgraded to the new phone iOS first)

Or, was that my issue?

I have had this a couple of times - it is slightly unintuitive in the way it is described as it applies to backups made using iTunes.

If you are running the latest release on an older model and then buy a new phone/iPad you may have an in compatible backup if you want to restore it to the new phone. Happened to me going from a 5S to 8 and on a couple of iPads.

If you are restoring a iCloud back up it should be ok.

From my own experience, doing a backup on a beta and then restoring it to a device works as long as the device is running the same or newer software and does not have a beta profile installed.

Is the public release today? I'm still running a 6s that's very laggy on 11.4.1. By all reports iOS 12 should speed it up a bit.

The 6s shouldn't really be laggy, as it is still a very fast phone. Even my ipod touch runs ios 11 reasonably well.

You can download ios12 Gold master now, which I believe is the version that will be released. I have found it works well on my 6s, although the settings have a bit of a lag when first loading it.

I just enrolled my phone in the beta then updated to the latest one, which happens to be the Gold Master. After that, I just uninstalled the Beta profile. Been running iOS 12 since Friday and no need to wade through the crowds tomorrow :)

Just installed tvOS12 on my AppleTVs (Gen4 and 4K).
What a let down.
Dolby Atmos on the 4K only and no Siri on either.
Unless it is a hardware limitation, why no Atmos on the Gen4? That's the one that's hooked up to my 1080p projector and Atmos sound system. Manufacturers (and Bluray producers for that matter) don't seem to get that having the audio format doesn't automatically mean you have a 4K display.
No, I don't want to swap them over. The 4K is hooked up to a UHD TV.

Could I suggest now the public release of 12 is out, the OP could amend the thread title? Then the discussion can continue.

No problem with changing the thread title. To what would you like it changed to and how do I do that?
