Nah don't go with iLiberty either. WinPwn is *the* best program for jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone, period.

The custom firmware, everyone should have. I just restored my old 2G iPhone as I am selling it and it was so quick and easy, all I did was Shift Restore (hold shift key when pressing restore button in iTunes and you can select which file to use as the restore file) in iTunes and it was done. It was Jailbroken, Unlocked and had installer pre-installed. Now before WinPwn/Pwnage I would have had to restore in iTunes and then Jailbreak and Unlock it as seperate steps.
With WinPwn the first time you run it you will create yourself a custom firmware, should you need to restore again you "shift restore" in iTunes and select the firmware you created (which you should have saved somewhere for later use).

Trust me, as a well seasoned iPhone unlocker/jailbreaker I can safely say WinPwn/Pwnage really are the best programs to use. They are also the safest to use as well. Unlike other previous jailbreak methods that exploit the iPhone, WinPwn/Pwnage Tool modifies the iPhone to accept unsigned .ipsw files making it safer to use.

With a iPhone there is a voicemail button in the phone app. On an original 2G version the button does nothing as it is supposed to be used for AT&T's visual voicemail. To activate the button you can dial *5005*86*707# and from then on when you press it it will call Voda's voicemail service. I would recommend you use *5005*86*+6421700700# instead though, if you go overseas the 707 version won't work. This is automatically in place on the 3G version as Vodafone NZ don't do visual voicemail.

You can also install this automatically through installer by adding the kiwi-ise.co.nz source to your list of sources.

That Kiwi-ise page doesn't explain the details of what it actually does/changes?

Hopefully my iPhone 2G arrives tomorrow and I'll have a chance to play with this.

Hey ahmad, thanks for referring me to this thread from the other thread.

I have got the sound to work, after doing a full reset.
So now I have hope that the guy didn't scam me, and that the recpetion will start working soon.

Ok, I used ziphone to unlock the iphone, but I am getting no reception.
I downloaded PwnageTool, but don't know how to use it (I'm on a Mac).

Is there something separate that I must download? an ipsw or something?

That might be for Windows only - I can't remember. But halfway down is a link to firmware - yes you will need a .ipsw firmware file.

Ok i downloaded a .ipsw frm the net, ran the pwnagetool and still same thing. I have no reception to vodafone.
Cannot call 777. argh!

Im off to sleep. Will have to give it another try tomorrow. If that doesn't work, then I guess the phone is screwed.

TurboSim is a device that connects to your sim card and tricks the iPhone into thinking you are using an official sim card. Don't bother going there. Really not worth paying for (IMO).

Hi everyone,

I'm very excited to be the latest Geekzoner to have an iPhone (1st gen but that's great for me).

I am on prepay with default Vodafone settings on my SIM. This question has been previously answered elsewhere but I cannot find it at the moment:

How do I turn off GPRS access from my iPhone to Vodafone COMPLETELY?

I can't afford any data "leaks" at $10/Mb, and I believe that some of the default Apps slowly eat away at the internet?

Change the APN!

I wonder if this is the primary reason why VF introduced a new APN... not just the perception of evil marketing folk trying to get to you sign up to new plan.

Download BossPrefs from installer. Then go into it and switch off "Edge". This will than switch off Edge and GPRS. It is the safest way to do it. Leaving it blank on a 2G iPhone on 1.1.4 is not enough and may end up costing. With BossPrefs it will disable it completely.

I just followed the instructions you linked from iClarify to WinPwn my iPhone. I did it step by step, but when I open BOttNeuter it says:

Error

Couldn't find all your required files...please check your installation of this app.

I tried a google search with little luck. Have you come across this before? Thanks.

FW 1.1.4 (4A102)
Baseband 04.04.05_G

On the "Build .ipsw" setcion, I ticked (as per instructions):

Activate iPhone
Enable Baseband update
Neuter bootloader 3.9/4.6
Unlock baseband

And I entered in the BL39 and BL46 files as downloaded in the .rar file linked from that page.
