i did the itunes update first (to 2.0) then ran the pwnage tool. then option+click to select the custom file. I think that  was the right order....anyway, I tried again and again but the same thing happened each time. Is there any fellow geekzoners who would care to offer their skills? i'll pay postage both ways to have someone do this for me. i almost cried at 1:45 this morning after I finally gave up :(

btw I had my sim in the whole time. Would that have caused any issues?

Pete

Selecting NO won't unlock your iPhone, a legit user is someone on AT&T, etc. who just needs the jailbreak.

If you're familiar with the terminology it's a whole lot better to use advanced mode and step through the config options.

Agreed.  I think advanced mode is actually better if you have a vague idea of what you are doing.

Also, it seemed heaps easier for me because I'd pwned my phone using the original pwnage tool on 1.1.4.  It was just a matter of creating a new 2.0 image and updating it using normal restore mode.  DFU mode scares me :)

Call me fussy, but I'd rather the apple logo than the pineapple on boot..

If that's all I have to complain abaout......

Use "advanced" mode (should be renamed "not a monkey" mode) and deselect custom images.  Voila you have your apple back!

You can change which Logo you have on boot up. Before you build the firmware, in "Expert" mode select "custom logos" and you can choose not to use any at all or upload your own custom one.

I am like you though, I prefer to use the original logos.

What?  Everything crashes?  Sounds like you've done something badly wrong :)
If in doubt, restore the firmware again, it's like a fresh pair of undies.

Most people have seen it and I'm having 1000+ people per day viewing it but use http://www.unlockit.co.nz to set your APN  :-)

There are other ways.. but this is the easiest...

Or do you mean other settings?

Thanks
Craig :-)

You probably know this already, but apps compiled for the 1.x firmware will NOT run on 2.0. There were massive API changes.

I don't know if any of the rest of you are registered iPhone developers, but breath easy, Xcode is installing my provisioned code-signed apps onto the jailbroken, activated and unlocked iPhone w/2.0 firmware just fine.
