Pwnage Tool 2.0 has been officially released by the Dev Team and is available for download.

At the moment does the following:

Original iPhone - Activate, Jailbreak, Unlock

3G iPhone - Jailbreak

Remember this tool jailbreaks and unlocks any 1st gen iPhones running the 2.0 firmware, and jailbreaks any 3G iPhone/iPod Touch running the 2.0 firmware. It does NOT support older versions of the iPhone/iPod Touch firmware including firmware 1.1.5 for the Touch.

This release DOESN'T UNLOCK 3G iPHONES YET, but they say they're working on that.

As Installer is not ready for 2.0 yet only Cydia is installed when you use the tool, but most jailbreak apps are in cydia now.

Pwnage 2.0

Download:
Pwnage Tool

You will also need:
Bootloader 3.9 - Pwnage Tool may ask for this file. You will need to search for this file, sorry can't link to it
Bootloader 4.6 - Pwnage Tool may ask for this file. You will need to search for this file, sorry can't link to it

Remember this is Mac only

Guide Here

Notes:
If you are having Mail.app issues after Pwning see here (Cheers Ben)
iTunes will also tell you there is an update for the local carrier settings, and ask if you want to apply it. This is fine to do.

UPDATE:

To get GPRS working on iPhone 1 using 2.0 firmware go to www.unlockit.co.nz (from your iPhone) and downlaod the APN settings (follow instructions on the site)

Yup I can confirmit upgrades original 1st gen iPhones fine.  Everything perfect, app store works, and phone/sms/voicemail is all good.

Can't say the same for Apple software.  2.0 is slow and buggy compared to 1.1.4.  My Contacts app takes ages to open and I'm not the only one with the problem (it exists on 3G phones and legit upgraded 1G phones)

I local NZ Copy is at:   http://www.unlockit.co.nz/pwnage/

It has plenty of bandwidth for NZ people to download it from so we don't waste international bandwidth)

Thanks
Craig

How to guide here

Follow the guide and you should have no issues. It really is easy to do. As usual though, read read read. Don't just assume you know.

FYI - If you have been Pwned before, at the end you will just be told to close Pwnage Tool, put the phone into restore mode and restore in iTunes using the custom firmware it created. It doesn't take you through the "DFU Mode" steps as outlined in the guide.

iTunes will also tell you there is an update for the local carrier settings, and ask if you want to apply it. This is fine to do.

Ok so ran the upgrade after a few hairy goes (should read the instructions in full at least twice before attempting) every thing ran fine for 30+minutes and then it started turning pear shaped. Apps that I have downloaded will not start, after one lock up when I restarted I had no wifi, very iffy experience in deed. Not only that but I appear to have lost the ability to browse use GPRS, any thoughts anybody?. Upgraded an 1.14 iPhone that had been working perfectly.

Have done this now and looks good, though can't get mail to work on the iPhone. Have just connected to re-sync and iTunes tell me that there are new carrier settings - do i want to update?

Is anyone getting the same message? Has anyone tried doing this?

I wasn't so lucky. Followed it closely - took a while to get in to DFU mode - got there, but at the very end the phone just sits there with the cord and itunes screen and the computer tells me it's not a correct sim. Damn it, I only had the phone for 4 days! Brick.

which stage are you at? important to select "no" when Pwnage asks if you are a legit iPhone user.

I got that behaviour too. Are you sure you updated with the custom pwnage firmware and not the original Apple firmware?

Amendment to previous reply, I only used a 1.0 iPhone which means that you are not a legit user in NZ when Pwnage asks the question.

Yup install the carrier updates.  They are all fine, and help with number formatting I think.

The correct fix for your mail problems is here: http://www.ben.geek.nz/fixing-iphone-mail-crashes-20-firmware/
(can someone add that link to the first post? heaps of people have the mail bug and iphone-dev's solution means you lose SMS data etc.)

@metime
i did the itunes update first (to 2.0) then ran the pwnage tool. then option+click to select the custom file. I think that  was the right order....anyway, I tried again and again but the same thing happened each time. Is there any fellow geekzoners who would care to offer their skills? i'll pay postage both ways to have someone do this for me. i almost cried at 1:45 this morning after I finally gave up :(

btw I had my sim in the whole time. Would that have caused any issues?

Pete
