mattwnz:

The start price for the new gen base model is $1499. Previously the start price for base model was $1399.

Granted the base model has increase storage and new features, but it is still a big percentage price jump.

I see.  Maybe RAM prices are such that it wasn't possible?  Apple will still be making huge margins even if they kept the same pricing, but their market power is such that they almost have monopolistic pricing power.

This weeks downward move in the dollar might filter through to higher pricing in the future though.

Yeah. Most people also don't buy the pro model, even though they are very nice, so they can ask what they want. But very pricey with this current market uncertainty, and don't know how many people / businesses will be buying new tech at the moment.

I hope the new models aren't as easy to bend as the older model appear to have been, but sure that will be the first thing youtubers tests. I have been careful with mine, but I have to grab it everytime the cat wants to sit on it. .

Toying with the idea of getting the new ipad pro as an upgrade to my 9.7.

currently I use the 9.7 pro with a microsoft universal mobile keyboard and surface mouse.  Also connect it into my surface pro and use it as a second monitor.  Mainly use the 9.7 for video editing and mobile office.

The alternative is to upgrade my surface pro to the new Dell XPS 15 when it comes out (I think next week) as it has 4k and thunderbolt 3.

Then I noticed the new NUCs with the 10th gen CPUs are out as well.

I'm still happy with my 9.7, but I really like the look of the new 11 with magic keyboard...priced it on Apple Website...I'll stick with what I have for now.
