BoydHQ:
I'm still hoping that one day Apple will surprise us with another 2007 Steve Jobs style blow your mind, change the world type release but alas I think small incremental updates are everyones thing now.

Looking forward to my first new iphone since 7. I am not looking forward to losing the home button. This is the only thing I can agree with Trump about.
Air tags delayed until March 2021 now 😭
I’m gonna have to hold out on losing stuff. 😄

I moved to an iPhone 11 Pro Max earlier this year (or late last year - I can't recall exactly!) so I doubt that I would be likely to buy a 12, especially since 4G is hardly common around here, never mind 5G. By the time 5G is in the rural Wairarapa, it'll be about the iPhone 15 I should think!
Air tags? Maybe. If they were a good deal better than anything else similar I have tried. Otherwise no.
Headphones? No. Have Focal Clear and no Apple/Beats confection is likely to better that.
Home Pod? No use for it. The house is already littered with Bose units, Samsung units and a Dynaudio unit.
ATV? Built in to my new telly so not required.
It's unlikely Apple will sell me a lot for at least 2 years on the phone front. I am more tempted by the Galaxy Fold 2 sort of thing than YAiP (Yet Another iPhone!) that is more or less the same as the last one in daily use.
I never thought I would say so, but Apple are getting a bit dull.

Looking at moving from a iphone 7. Will see what the 12 brings.....thouh still quite tempted by a SE2 as touch id and the size. If the 12 using the same A13 chip as the current 11/SE2 then decision made.
Apple has already announced the A14 with the new iPad Air last month so that will make its way to the new iPhones too.
I temporarily used an iPhone Se2 for a week and wow can’t believe how much I miss TouchID. Superior in every way to Face ID. I hope one day it returns.
I hope the new HomePod comes to NZ. I picked up an original one in Aussie a few years ago and I love it. would love a couple more.

In a Post-Covid world, you have a better than average chance that you'll get your wish - especially as they've gone full screen with the iPad Air 4 and incorporated Touch ID into the on/off button...

Wouldn't an ID method involving touching something be less likely post-Covid rather than more likely?

FaceID pretty much fails with masks, and then prompts for a passcode to be typed in ... so a single fingerprint is probably tidier...
cshwone:geekiegeek: I upgrade every year
Could I ask why? I can't actually think of a logical use case.
Because I can and I'm a tech enthusiast so I like the latest and greatest. Not everything in life has to be logical.
My OnePlus 3T is getting a bit old in the tooth, I might be making the jump to Apple, but not sure.
I think the answer is no, but do any retailers here offer any Pre-Order/early order bonus? EG: Free Headphones etc?
Cheers.

Free charger would be nice. Not happy about them not being included as I always sell my old iphone. Guess I will need to go wireless charging maybe? Anyone suggest good wireless charging setups?
alasta:
If they update the Homepod product line it will be interesting to see if it'll be available in NZ.
Either way I'll stick with my Sonos gear as they are a specialist audio company.
I will challenge you there...
They are software company who bring in outside speaker designers to develop their transducers.
They focus on patents and other such elements for financial viability - so they are very much cut from the same cloth as Apple in some ways.
If you want a specialist speaker company, it's B&W / Klipsch / Elac / DynAudio / Polk / Sonus Faber / Kef / Tannoy etc.
Or Sonance... the company that Sonos got to make their in-ceiling and outdoor speakers because they know that they are, outright, a software company.
iPhone 12 only looks good if you are wanting the updated Camera, the other thing they were pushing is 5G but not really any good to us due to Vodafone only having reasonable 5G coverage in the 3 big cities + Queenstown (unless they are all about to turn on a big expansion of the network) or you live in Palmerston North where Spark has 5G.
