Geektastic: My iMac Pro has plenty of ability to last me a few more years.

I might flick the iPad Pro and get the new Air once I see since some reviews etc. it would be much more use to me than an iPad.

I tried last year to convince my wife I needed an iMac Pro...... she wasn't convinced, very sad for me.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Yes but imagine the next one with Apple Silicon! You’ve time to build your A gave up before that’s available.

They are lovely machines. I can’t find anything that slows mine down in normal use, especially now Adobe are making better use of multiple cores in their photography programs.

Interesting benchmarks (for what they are worth) suggesting the M1 is the fastest chip Apple have ever used in single core and outperforms the i9 in the 16inch MBP.

AGAIN very disappointed that there is no new or updated  TV Box 😢

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I guess we will know from Nov 17th when they ship, the stats they showed were pretty misleading tbh but the chips an impressive idea. Not keen on it all being integrated given it gives Apple all the power with repair options and limits/removes upgrade paths.

Agreed - I'm very unhappy with low repairability; while the MBP can be specced to 16Gb (which is probably adequate now) it is soldered on, so can never have more. I'm unsure if the new Mini will have used replaceable RAM - my 2012 Mini has a 1Tb SSD and 16Gb RAM and remains unflappable. Similarly, the M1 apparently only has 2 TB4 channels so that's why there's only 2 ports on the case irrespective of the model (MBA, MBP, Mini) - which means nearly everyone needs a dock if they wish to use it as anything other than an on-your-lap device.

There is also apparently some way of putting Big Sur on the Mini even though it is technically a generation too old. I will need to investigate further.

Interesting that the M1 MacBooks are substantially cheaper than the equivalent intel model.. I guess apple making their own chipsets have saved costs and they’re (for a nice change) passing those saving on to customers.

Slightly OT but wanted to ask if others have installed Big Sur on an older MacBook and what they thought of performance? Any slowdowns etc? I have a late 2013 MBP, so the oldest generation supported. Would be interesting to hear from others with similarly old devices on how Big Sur runs.

Why do you want an update, Just curious on what else you would like to see in a box.

We have the 4k one and could not really see what else I would like it to do.

I would say there could be some pissed of 16" users who splashed the cash on this 4k plus and then they release an air that can out perform it for 1/2 the cost.

I am interested to see what they are going to do with the mac book pro range with the silicon as that is what I would like to upgrade to.

I would love to see a new remote. The current Apple TV is rage generating even in a calm mild manner person like myself

I really like the simplicity of the remote, but the swipey pad is an incredibly stupid idea. Replace it with directional buttons and I'd be very happy.

They don't have equivalent Intel models anymore. The M1 machines are at the same price points as the old low end intel macs, except the Mac Mini which is cheaper. With the old Mac Mini you could at least upgrade the RAM but with an SOC that's not an option.

For anything memory intensive the current 16 inch machine will probably still be faster as the SOC only has 8GB of RAM.

We also don't know what CPU or laptop apple was actually comparing M1 to as they didn't say.

The new Air is still substantially cheaper even with an upgrade to 16 GB.
