I got a replacement today still has sum small stress fractures but better tha what i've had and seen so im deciding to keep. Cheers for your help man.

That's just dreadful.

Are you able to take some decent pictures of the cracks for us, please? would be good to show people just in case anyone queries this.

Its been quite amazing looking in at your guys Thread.Ive had a Iphone 3 G white 16 gb since launch day.I bought a Griffen Hard case which it has been in ever since.The phone was dropped onto the pavement a few months ago.I took it out of the case several weeks ago to:

Clean it up inside as some dust was appearing under the screen cover.
Double check the area between the volume switch as your posts reported cracks.

There have been no cracks seen at all.
I just must be lucky

Yeah definitely,

I'm now in the same boat as you, I have an iPhone 3G Black 16GB, and don't have any cracks, scratches, dust particles, nothing!
Its quite literally perfect from the hardware/physical point of view. Does what it should, looks like it should.

Not quite.
Ive still got my original white 16 gb model.
The dust was under the plastic cover of the hard case and still gets inside the case.
A quick polish with my camera cloth it came up nice and shiny !!

True. But I mean, there are good iphones out there.. It's just a few people are having issues.

What I meant was: You have a good iPhone, I have a good iPhone.

Damnit man! that;s terrible!

Those are definitely cracks.

Those are exactly the same reason i had my white ones replaced every single time.

My black one doesnt have those.

Clearly you're still not happy.. I wouldn't be either, actually.

Personally i'd keep sending it out. screw them. you pay decent money for these, you should at least get what you paid for.

So!
I went ot vodafone in Northlands today, they gave me the apple iphone support line.
I called them who then put me to apple australia!! after talking for15 minutes and being put on hold twice they said there was nuthing much they could do! Thats when i lost it and got put to an apple asia representative and said all i would like to do is to get and iphone from a christchurch retailer and for it to be written off as a warranty. She then asked for pictures and so i emailed her tis page!.
Now i am waiting for a call back!!!

The lady in australia admitted to the iphone having cracking problems but said they were replaced straight away and it is odd that im onto my 3rd one!

I'm thinking of getting a refund now and just going to a different store and looking in the box before i buy!
i bought the iphone outright, can i still do this or is it only online?

Oh man, I feel your paid.. I really do.

I went through the same thing..

Unfortunately, NZ is different to the US as far as the setup is concerned..

If you have a problem with your iPhone in the USA, you can ring Apple and they will send you the replacement directly..
however, in NZ, we HAVE to go through Vodafone/MFR

You should still be able to buy a new one outright without any issues..
Legally they have to. I know that whe nI went to buy mine, they did say I "Had" to buy a contract also..
I just said to the guy that served me. Don't give me this BS and just sell me the phone please.

Also, it may be wroth noting; my iPhone models i've had;

all the cracked ones were:

MB500X/A

However, my black one that isnt cracked is:

MB496X/A

And on top of that, my mate just went and bought a new iphone 3G black 16gb from Albany (auckland), and I had him inspect his thoroughly, and there are no cracks at all on his either and he also has the same model number as me.

Hey apple have asked me to courrier the iphone up to australia and they'll send one from the factory within ten days.
Isn't that just the part number though?? like the model of the iphone?? i wonder if 8gb black have the cracks more than 16gb?

Yeah, what they would have done is got you to send it to your "authorization" department.

They are the ones who authorise the replacements etc.

That's also apparantly the proceadure ove rhere..

MFR take photos or something, and a send photos and a report to the Australian office and they say yay or nay.

(Or so i'm told by the Technican at MFR, I don't quite believe him though, but thats another story)

Umm, possible. didnt think of it like that (which model has had the most)

Umm, that thing i quoted to you is apparantly the model. that's what it says on the iPhone itself, and on the box.

So it's probably just for the main board, who knows.

The replacement i got from apple directly still had cracks, so there updgrading me to a 16gb. They asked what colour i want so i said black.
Hope that was a better choice than white, i like the colour white better but ive heard cracking is worse in white????

I dont know that the cracking is worse on the white ones, just that it is more visible because of the colour
