Looks like they had a raft of things ready to go just before xmas, wonder why the delay?

I’d guess the Shenzhen lockdowns had something to do with it.

I'm loving the fact that they no longer feel the need for a massive song and dance to announce every little release, but the Homepod really flew under the radar!!

https://www.apple.com/nz/homepod-2nd-generation/

Interesting this has also come out now, and for first time in NZ ($529).

This is exactly what I have been waiting for. I am going to buy a couple as a stereo pair.

Does anyone have any recommendations for suitable speaker stands?

Lots of grumpiness about that requirement,  not compatible with the Gen1 or Mini, so you need 2 new ones for stereo....

It wasn't part of yesterday's announcements; it was announced separately today.

I am stoked about the new HomePod! I love my OG one that I imported from Australia five years ago (they didn't do HomePods in NZ at the time), but have been nervous as I know a lot of them have randomly died over the years and there's no replacements available.

They put out a serious amount of sound, hopefully the new ones don't lose any of that magic now that they're missing one tweeter compared to the OG.

My concern with something like a Homepod is that unlike a standard speaker setup, Smart Speakers can have support pulled any time and render them effectively useless.

Do the Homepods have the ability to be a "dumb" Bluetooth or wired speaker as well as a Smart Speaker?

You can always AirPlay to them (without using Siri) if you're on the same WiFi network, so I guess they can be "kind of dumb"?

Are the gen 2 HomePods even in stores yet? I thought Apple were just starting to dispatch pre-orders today?

The HomePod mini hardware has never been updated, so you can definitely buy a new one and pair it with an existing one.

The new HomePod (full size) however, can't be paired with an older version.
