I’m hoping they will announce an M3 version of MacBook Air 15” - but no biggie if not - I’ll settle for the M2.

It's also worth having a look around at 14 inch M1 Pro MacBook Pros on run out.

I'm not sure of availability in NZ but I just (yesterday) bought one of these for basically the same price as an upgraded (16GB/512GB) 13 inch M2 MacBook Air. I was originally planning to buy the M2 Air.

That is a good option.  I went to the 512/16 air 15 inch because I wanted the extra screen size and did not need pro power

The problem I have with iPhone from my own experience is that after about  2 years the battery usually needs replacing. Then there is the performance you have to go through and the relatively high cost involved in replacing it. That is when many just upgrade.

My iPhone is two years old and sitting on 93% battery health, so I'm reasonably confident that I will get another year out of it before it hits the dreaded 80% threshold.

My Watch, on the the other hand, is on 87% despite being about the same age so I'm more inclined to want to upgrade it. As a fitness enthusiast I do a lot of charge cycles on it and I guess that takes its toll over time. I'm hoping that the new watches will have better battery life, hence needing fewer charge cycles and achieving better battery longevity.

I wanted a 16GB/512GB machine and this was the same price (on Amazon) as a 13 inch M2 MacBook Air from Apple with the same specs. The only sacrifice I'm making is weight - it's more powerful, has a much better screen and more ports. For me it was a no brainer as it's replacing an M1 Mac mini with 16GB/512GB.

That's not my experience at all.

I'm in the privileged position of buying new every year and handing my old one down.  Partly because I like to hand things down in as close-to-new condition as possible, I always have my phones in a decent protective case.  While I'm not too intense about it, I aim to keep the battery charge level at between 20% and 80% as I understand the lithium battery chemicals are under the most stress when in the top or bottom 20% of their charge capacity.  My 10 month old iPhone is showing 100% battery health, and I'm a heavy-ish user with typically around 4 hours 'screen time' reported each day.  In previous years hen I have the phone down at around 13 months of age, it usually has 97-98% battery health.

I would expect the MacBooks to be released together with new iPads later in the year.

On reflection, of course you're right. I saw somewhere that the MBA15 M3 might come this year - and thought the Sept event. Now realise that it's certainly not going to happen then. Maybe later this year but have just seen that Macworld make a strong case for the M3 MBAs being released in N spring 2024.

Also not a problem I am having. I have a Launch day XR with 1452 charging cycles and its still at 81% battery health. Thats coming up 5 years of heavy(ish) usage (4 hours a day screen time).

AFAIK all 15's will have USB-C, I'm awaiting this event to upgrade and pricing will decide whether I get a 15, 15 Pro or look at a 14 Pro on discount.

I suspect the use of wired Carplay hasn't helped with the battery health on my phone as it often means that the phone is charging when it doesn't need to, hence more time spent above 80% charge state. I've recently bought a wireless Carplay adaptor which will solve this problem.

iPhone 15 Pro for the camera really.

Using an iPhone13 at the moment, never thought I would want\need the pro version. How wrong I was, so keen on seeing the pricing of the Pro version.

[Probably OT] Very interested to know details - which adapter, what car etc? Would be grateful if you could give us a quick review. Maybe here?

I would like one of these. After a discussion here last year, a kind GZer sent me one but I couldn't get it to work in my 2020 Audi (but TBH the unit may have been defective).

I'd say they'll start around the $2k mark and go up from there for the Pro models. Rumour has it that they'll be $100USD more this year, so add the NZ Apple Tax to that and we're probably looking at a significant bump in NZ.

No worries - I've just started a new thread with my experiences.

It'll also hammer your battery. It's damned if you do / damned if you don't with charging.

I tried a wireless Carplay adapter and eventually gave it up. My car has a wirelessly charging pad in it but it must only charge and 0.0001W or something as wireless Carplay drained my battery even when on the charging pad. I went back to wired as I only really charge my phone on the 50min journey to and from work 3 days a week.

I wireless carplay exclusively and would never go back to wired but it does draw more than my wireless charger can supply.

A 2A charger copes fine.

Happy that apple didn't increase prices but I see the standard 15's are up $50 and the Pro's up $100.

I expected more of a battery life bump with 3nm process on the pro but its the same as the 14 pro. I don't need all the mobile gaming power nor the better camera so now to decide between a 15 and 15 plus. Edging the plus for the 6 hour longer battery life.
