The next Apple event: "Wonderlust" will be on the 13th of September at 5am local time.

Expected products:

  • iPhone 15 and 15 Plus (probably with USB-C)
  • iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max (probably with USB-C)
  • Apple Watch Series 9
  • Apple Watch Ultra Series 2
  • New AirPods with USB-C

Are you looking forward to any of the expected products?

Looking forward to the 15 Pro Max, but not re-financing the house to pay for it :-)

Just guessing that USB C will only be for the pro models unless they don't really have any new features. Can't think of much else they can add at the moment as it is a mature product. It is weird when USB C is considered a feature then everything else now tends to have it. I would still iike to see touch id added as another option, as I don't lie face ID and they could add it to the new action button or underscreen,

I think it has to be USB-C everywhere because they have to implement it in Europe, it's been mandated.

I used to replace my iPhone every two years but it's too expensive to do that now, so I'll stick with my 13 Pro for another year.

The watch is tempting, but it sounds like the series 9 won't be that much better than my current series 6.

I’m hoping they will announce an M3 version of MacBook Air 15” - but no biggie if not - I’ll settle for the M2.

I would expect the MacBooks to be released together with new iPads later in the year.

Looking forward to the Apple Watch Pro Ultra Max M3.

To be honest, I have an iPhone 14Pro, Watch Ultra, older gen Macbook Air and iPad Mini (plus loads of Apple products in the immediate family) and don't see myself lusting after anything on offer. Nothing is wowing me from the rumours so far.

More $$ for fewer additional features.

When the optical zoom comes to the non-Max iPhone Pro and offers minimum 10x lossless zoom - I may consider an upgrade.

It's also worth having a look around at 14 inch M1 Pro MacBook Pros on run out.

I'm not sure of availability in NZ but I just (yesterday) bought one of these for basically the same price as an upgraded (16GB/512GB) 13 inch M2 MacBook Air. I was originally planning to buy the M2 Air.

A new SE will unlikely be in this one. More likely next year. But the current one isn't that old.

The problem I have with iPhone from my own experience is that after about  2 years the battery usually needs replacing. Then there is the performance you have to go through and the relatively high cost involved in replacing it. That is when many just upgrade.

Yeah I know. But given the existing one is already 2 years. Or is it only 1? I’ll hang on to my existing one.

I think rumour suggested that they while they would all have a USB-C port, the non-pro models would only be connecting/charging at USB2 speeds. This fulfils the EU requirement for standardised charging while maintaining Apple's tiered feature model.

In most markets it's around 10% of the cost of a new iPhone to replace the battery. We just did it with my Mums iPhone XS Max while she was here, it took about 2 hours at the Apple Store. NZ is obviously more constrained as Apple isn't directly present.

It's only about $160 or so (certainly less than $200) to replace the battery, and an apple authorised repairer can do it same day.  I  tend to replace my battery after about 18 months (when its down to 90%), and replace the phone every 3 years or so
