It is not optimised charging. It limits at 80% across any device, charging only to 100% in time for when it thinks you need it. You see it sitting at exactly 80% when this kicks in.

I think it came down to a couple of faulty cables.
I’ve tried another one and it works fine. Phone charged to 100% overnight and currently charging with no issues on a flight to Singapore.

And that could also be the cause to your degrading battery...learnt this the hard way myself, apple products are very sensitive to the chargers and cables used to charge them...

Thanks for the info.
I better fork those extra dollars out for the overpriced Apple chargers. I guess it’s worth it, if it will slow down the degradation of the battery.

Hmm, I think something clearly isn’t right.
The back glass screen has started to crack and bulge.
Quite frustrating, especially as I’m travelling (Denmark) at the moment.
Phone still works and charges, but if the phone suddenly dies, I’ve got an issue.
Especially as I’ve got a ticket on it for a Euro 2024 game in Germany this coming weekend.

That sounds like a faulty bulging battery. Not sure what duration warranty Apple put on genuine repair and how difficult it would be to claim overseas, but may be worth looking at if you are out of NZ for a while.

If in NZ, CGA would be your friend.

Got a new battery (not original Apple) and glass back installed for 1500 kroner ($350).
Fortunately work pays for it.
I was told that to get a new original Apple battery, they had to supply a new phone. Something about the phone being from NZ and Apple not allowing it. Didn’t really understand it, but took his word for it as it was an authorised Apple store.
