Wow, sounds great, does this void any warranty?
Is it easy to change the settings? (where can I get instructions?)
and does this process incur any loss of features or usability?

No, it doesn't void warranty. It's easy to change the settings. Just look in the XT discussions in our Telecom forums. There is no loss of features.

Down fall is that you miss out on the wonderful dialup GPRS speeds on 900MHz while you get blinding Broadband speed on 805MHz XT.

I would bet a large amount of money on XT getting the 3G S. We know that Vodafone have not got an exclusive deal with Apple, and I just don't think that Apple are going to turn down a telco that holds half the marketshare of the country. Also, check this page out: http://www.apple.com/nz/iphone/buy/.

See that space between the two grey lines underneath the Vodafone logo? That's a placeholder. That space wasn't there for the 'where to buy' page for the 3G. My guess is there'll be an XT logo and logo there before too long. Right now, Telecom is trying to promote their 'world first' Sony Ericsson W995a, so they wouldn't want to take the spotlight off it prematurely by announcing the 3G S. NZ doesn't get the 3G S until 09/07 anyway so there is plenty of time left for them to announce it. Just bookmark that link and watch that space!

I was in a telecom store today and asked them if they had a W995a I could have a look at. The guy didnt really know what I was talking about, and so went out the back to ask someone else. He came back a couple of minutes later to say no they didnt have them in the shop, but would likely have then later in the week.

One interesting thing he said at the same time was that the reason he had to go and ask is that they are getting a another new phone in that hadnt been announced yet and he wasnt sure - could it be the iphone 3gs? Who knows....

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I was looking at a cached version of the above website on the yahoo search engine - this version does not have the placeholder (unfortunately it doesnt tell you when its from).  The cached version on google (7 June) does however.

Mike.

I don't see why that backs it up. In Australia 3 carriers sell the iPhone.
So with us not having 'where to buy' wouldn't it lean more towards a single carrier for nz, rather than two.

all great info, i ran into my mate tonight who put an xt sim in his older iphone. works fine for him.

he did point out that vodafone made him sign a contract to say he wouldnt use it on any other networks..
