Why have you got the SM card out when updating? You don't need to have it out, put it back in. Also try re-dowloading the carrier file from here again. I did a repack as it wasn't working properly at one stage yesterday.

The reason I have to have the sim out is if I put the XT sim in - the iPhone tells me to plug it in to iTunes. I then plug it in to iTunes and get "The sim card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported" etc. There is no option to do anything on iTunes or on the iPhone at this stage. So I then take the sim out - and plug it back in to iTunes so I can see it on iTunes.

I tried a restore this morning to see if that would fix it - but no. Still can't get it going on XT.

And you've got a NZ New 3GS? The iPhone should just work with the Telecom SIM Card without my files. And even after a restore it doesn't work? After you restored did you put the Voda SIM in first? The XT SIM definitely works ok in another XT phone? Did you re-download the files yet?

Ah .. the iPhone has to be "activated/unlocked" via a NZ Vodafone Sim Card first if I remember right via itunes

find any vodafone card put it into the iPhone and plug into Itunes and it will do it.

Then put your XT Card in and it should work.

@LennonNZ.....No it doesn't, activation/unlock should just work out of the box with an XT SIM (mine and many others I know certainly did)

XT SIM worked straight out of the box for me. TXTing and calling works perfectly.

It's all rumour and speculation, nothing official has been announced. The only official thing was that Alan Gourdie (head of Telecom's retail group) tweeted that Telecom were in deep discussions with Apple concerning the release of the 3GS. Since then nothing further has been said and Telecom have declined to comment when asked what's happening.

So it's anyone's guess when or even if they will officially sell/support the iPhone.

Unless harrylin knows something we don't then it's just another rumour.

thanks, but there really is no difference between buying one now, or waiting to see if Telecom brings them out... other than the wait! Right?

No. You can buy one now, chuck your XT SIM in and away you go. The only major difference is that if you have problems getting it to work then Telecom won't be able to help you sort the problem as it's not an officially supported device, but then you could just come back on here and lots of people would be able to help you!

Yes it is nz new. To get it going after the restore I had to insert a sim card. I tried the xt one first but had the same problem with the sim is not from a supported carrier. So then I put the vodafone sim in and it started working - then swapped over and put the xt one in and told me to connect to iTunes again and still wouldn't work. Yes I did download your files again but I got the error again when I tried to update with the xt sim in. And yes the xt sim works fine in a Nokia 6120c which is the phone I got with the sim. Very strange.

Maybe that's the problem of your iTunes. Sometimes iTunes isn't compatible with certain version of windows. I tried to ordered one last night but all iPhones were out of stock. So I can't do anything but to stick to my 3G. I heard from somebody from Twitter that telecom will release iPhone before September. It might be rumour.

I was initially having problems. Called the store where I got my number transferred to the sim, the employee was new and used an old method of transferring which takes longer, or thats what the person on the phone told me. Working perfectly now. The iPhone XT carrier setting files work great. Sorry I can't actually provide help techlover, good luck though!
