zactommo: I've been down this road too. Same story, except it was trade me, and I paid $550 for a 2G iphone (this all happened about the end of last year) The line they used was "I am actually selling on behalf of a friend, and they won't give me the phone to send to you"
What I did was: Contacted trade me. The shut down the sellers account, and explained the process I needed to go through to get my money back. Trade Me Sent me a form to the effect of "We will release the sellers details for you to use only for the purposes of court proceedings" So I filled that out (had to be witnessed at the court) and trade me handed out their address.
Then I filled a complaint at the disputes tribunal (cost me $30 I think)
Basically when it came to the tribunal date, the seller realised I wasn't going to let them rip me off, and backed down straight away, and agreed to payback the money. I was payed back within a couple of weeks.
Disputes tribunal is definatly the way to go with this sort of thing. Was a simple as process!
djpaubes: Just a heads up prob too late but banks can reverse transactions... even standard account transactions. Hit up the bank and see what they say. A guy from work did this a little while ago.
