but anyways, I took a leap and just went and bought a 3Gs the other day - 32GB... Already had it replaced though.

It would be silly for them to incorporate LTE into the new iPhone. Barely any major markets support it. I would hope they'll keep the same frequency setup (however there are rumors of supporting normal CDMA with a dual chip).

Definitely wait for it, the announcement will most likely be at WWDC next month.

Based on the way Apple wait for things to "mature" before they join the ranks, I'd say LTE will be at least 2 iPhones away.

It shouldn't be long before credible rumours start appearing like there was with the last few releases apple have made

Apple have been pretty good about maintaining a consistent OS platform across the various iPhone hardware releases. The current crop of iPhones are great. In the next iteration you can expect some slightly upgraded hardware specs but nothing revolutionary, along with an updated OS. If you jumped now you'll get the updated OS and features in due course anyway so unless there was something that you need the current hardware to do which it can't I'd simply buy now.

and that's why I jumped now. A 1200MP camera and mildly faster processor isn;t that important to me on a smartphone.

FWIW, I now have a 32gb 3Gs

Same can be said with the iPad. They went to the micro-sim because it was the next best thing and they had to have it first like everything else. They will most likely do this with LTE, Making it future proof.
