(edit)...I'm a bit furious that Telecom still fails at a simple product launch and won't get the device. (...edit)

If we were able to see the bigger picture I think we'd find that Telecom aren't allowed it. VF is a big machine globally and as such has a lot more negotiating power with Apple than Telecom. (If it's actually possible to negotiate with apple rather than to assume the apple position.)

I'll link to a thread I started about this exact issue:

What Telecom should do is form a buying alliance with the like of Telstra in Oz and AT&T as they use the same technology and use that as leverage for products like the iPhone. In the CDMA days they partnered  with Sprint to buy fones..

Well I'll 100% get one, just have to sell my 3g to offset a little bit of the price.
If I have to line up in the cold to get it at 3am again, then that's what I'll do! lol
Looks like an awesome phone, pretty much in a league of its own! *braces for android backlash*

p.s. I was up at 5 for the liveblogs too, gizmodo deserved to not have an invite huh! :D

richms: remains to be seen how good the video is on it before I am convinced.

Added screen resolution is pointless IMO, cant see the pixels on the normal one at normal usage distances.

900MHz matters not since I dont usually go to the back of beyond to where there is a 900MHz network to use.

The camera is the main thing I care about, but it does the aweful jellyvision video that the 3g and cheap cameras like the flip do then forget it.

The camera is amazing, check this: http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/08/a-look-at-iphone-4s-camera-quality/
It also does 720p HD video.

No video on that link, but for stills it is hard to tell from those shots.

Last phone I had would do great shots on some things, and excessivly edge enhanced ringing crap on the next shot.

Untill I see some real world shots rathar than that oversaturated ones and more importantly some sample video which is handheld in moderate lighting I will reserve judgement.

well first upit depends if my wife lets me buy one.

But assuming she does (I can dream!) then I might try and get one from Hong Kong if they are cheaper there. the 3GS are unlocked, so the 4 should be too. I'm going in September.

ETA: hmm, 3GS 32GB at current exchange rates is priced at ~$950NZD from the apple store in HK. Not bad, but not great.

underwatervrg: Price on NZ's Apple Store has already gone down for 3G, and 16gb 3GS and 32gb 3GS

3G - NZ$950
3GS 16gb - NZ$999
3GS 32gb - NZ$1099

3G will go,

3GS will probably stay at that price with the iPhone 4 starting at 1179 (current VF price).

Can't wait for this thing to be released in NZ. I was up at 5am following the live blog and audio feed. The smart phones are really going to change the way we do thing, one commentator I was listening to even went as far as saying that there wont be Mac Notebooks and Desktops in 5-10yrs. Apple is completely focusing on iOs4.

I'm probably going to end up buying mine through the Apple store. Unless I can get someone to source some from the US or OZ.

Where does Vodafone say that?Undecided

Current VF price for 3GS, sorry i should have made it clearer. Since Apple has dropped the 3gs to 999, i makes sense that the new model will come in at the old 3gs price of 1179. Just speculating!
