Just wondering because the new iPhone 4 is apparently not going to be avaliable till at least July.

Please, no hating fanboys!
If I wanted to know how lame the iPhone is, or how cool Android is I'd be reading other posts.

I'm going to wait till July :)

Before I want to buy I want to know what the reception is like, and actual real-use battery life.

Screen looks great, and performance should be amazing compared to my 3G, which is getting old.

I'll wait until it's released in our region. As long as it's sold unlocked in Australia (from Apple directly) I'll probably end up getting one from there due to Apple products generally being cheaper there anyway when compared to NZ prices, as well as being able to claim the GST back when leaving the country which should make for a nice little saving. Still I'll wait until NZ pricing is announced just to see how we compare.

I'm going to Hawaii in the July School Holidays!
It wasn't planned to coincide with the launch of the iPhone 4,
and I wont be able to afford one either, even though its locked.
I just can't wait to play with one of these things, the screen alone looks amazing.

I'm not going to commit till I see one. I loved apple once upon a time, till I was bitten.

Paul Brislen said "the coming months".  Don't hold your breath.

Personally, I'll consider getting one of the 3GS models (that I'm sure will go down in price... right?  right?!?) as I don't really care about all the new features (except the high resolution - might get it for that maybe?) but need to get a new iDevice since Apple won't allow me to upgrade my old iPod Touch to OS 4 and I can hardly develop on OS 3.

I'm a bit furious that Telecom still fails at a simple product launch and won't get the device.  Prices here are ridiculous but Telecom has that whole "pay it off on your bill" thing which Vodafone won't do.

3G will go,

3GS will probably stay at that price with the iPhone 4 starting at 1179 (current VF price).

Can't wait for this thing to be released in NZ. I was up at 5am following the live blog and audio feed. The smart phones are really going to change the way we do thing, one commentator I was listening to even went as far as saying that there wont be Mac Notebooks and Desktops in 5-10yrs. Apple is completely focusing on iOs4.

I'm probably going to end up buying mine through the Apple store. Unless I can get someone to source some from the US or OZ.

remains to be seen how good the video is on it before I am convinced.

Added screen resolution is pointless IMO, cant see the pixels on the normal one at normal usage distances.

900MHz matters not since I dont usually go to the back of beyond to where there is a 900MHz network to use.

The camera is the main thing I care about, but it does the aweful jellyvision video that the 3g and cheap cameras like the flip do then forget it.

The camera is amazing, check this: http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/08/a-look-at-iphone-4s-camera-quality/
It also does 720p HD video.

(edit)...I'm a bit furious that Telecom still fails at a simple product launch and won't get the device. (...edit)

If we were able to see the bigger picture I think we'd find that Telecom aren't allowed it. VF is a big machine globally and as such has a lot more negotiating power with Apple than Telecom. (If it's actually possible to negotiate with apple rather than to assume the apple position.)
