They are saying the reception issue isn't that bad in this article here:

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10656913

And in some cases it performs better than a 3GS in low signal areas.

Yes. I'm not sure I'll buy into the negative-hype of that just yet. People love to jump down Apple's throat, so I'll wait for the dust to settle......then buy one anyway.

It's important to note some people have found it impossible/difficult to replicate the issue with their iPhones in the real world so it seems a bit isolated. With such huge numbers sold even a 1 in 10,000 issue could seem common.

Anyway, lucky the white bumper looks so cool! :)

yes, they also say that just by putting a case on your the back of your phone solves the problem.
Most people would have cases on their phone anyway, I know it was one of the first things I clipped on the back plus a screen protector when I bought the 3GS to stop wear and tear..

It would be helpful to have a release date. It is one of the most annoying things that Vodafone and Apple take so long to provide a date for consumers.
Would be also great to know if there will be a midnight option this time around.

There might be a delay with this reception issue, who knows!

I've also heard rumours that T-Mobile in the UK are refusing to stock the iPhone 4 until Apple sorts out the antenna issue. Mind you, its all rumours and conjecture at this point.

I don't care about the antenna issue simply because I would use a case anyway, with or without the antenna issue. So, yeah it's a non-issue for me really.

And staying on topic, I would rather buy online and have it shipped to me. But if they offered a buy online and pick up in store option (without queuing), that'd be good :)

yeah, exactly..
just buy a case to protect the phone and it solves the problem they say.
Why would you use a phone that costs over $1000 without something to protect it anyway..

It seems strange that if it is due for release later this month that there still has been no concrete news on its pending availability.

Damn...

Turns out that the insurance company is making me order my iPhone with Noel Leeming. So won't be able to line up for one, which IMHO is still the best way to get the phone. It's like an experience to get such a phone. It's not like you lined up for a Motorola RAZR....

porche20002,

So are you waiting for the iPhone 4 or you have to get the 3GS?

Well the insurance said Noel Leeming would handle the replacement so hopefully they might order in the iPhone 4 but who knows these days. They could be suspicious it got 'stolen' so I could upgrade. Too bad they don't give out cash anymore. Would make life a lot easier. Has anyone else been in this situation? Any tips?

Probably wouldn't get your hopes up, its unlikely an insurance company would upgrade you.  If they still sell the model you had stolen then thats what they will want to give you.

Good luck tho!

Yeah, I've been in this situation with an iPod - they looked for old stock before begrudgingly giving me a newer one as that was all they had. Also Noel leeming.
