I still look back fondly on that cold night.
After an encouraging txt from a friend I put on all the jackets I owned and left the warmth and comfort of home to stand with a group of strangers to get my hands on the 'new' iPhone at midnight.
Still glad I was out there on launch night, and I'll totally be up for it come iPhone4 time too!
:)
I wonder if it'll be a midnight launch or maybe just 'opening time' in the morning?

Any speculation? Who'll line up again

:)

Personally won't be buying an iPhone 4 as I already have a 3GS and I'm planning on skipping a generation, but if I upgrade next year I'd be tempted to do the whole lining up thing as it sounds like quite an experience.

My iPhone recently got stolen so I'm looking forward to the new iPhone 4. I remember lining up that cold night for the 3G! Got quite a few freebies though, including hot chocolates and even a cheeseburger from McDonalds. Good times. Hopefully they're make it a midnight launch but I'm thinking that was only because we were the first in the world last time. Undecided

I'll probably order online in the comfort of my own home like I did last year. I don't see the difference in being the first, or 400th, in getting the phone.

Fair enough. There isn't any difference but it's the experience and fun it all was. We waited on that chilly night and met other people. It was a great experience to tell your kid I guess. My parents said it reminded them of lining up to buy an apartment in Hong Kong.

Cheers,

It depends on if we can pre-order or not yet....I've had a person at a Vodafone store say they would allow it.....but if I can't pre-order I will most likely be standing in line no matter the time!

Just don't see myself getting a 4.

Might get a 5, when it comes along, but certainly wouldn't be an early adopter, so no - I won't be in any lines at midnight.

I won't be getting one until they fix the signal problems.
But then I might just stay with the 3GS I have currently. I've upgraded it to IOS4 and it's great once you work out how to turn off running apps with the task manager so you don't zap your battery really quickly with to many apps running on the background.

Any idea if you can line up and buy one on account, or it is only if you buy outright? I need to change plans and am very keen to get one asap when they come out, leaving for 6 weeks in the states on 4th august so I am dreading that it will be delayed and I will miss out before I leave.

LOL

I did see on tomshardware.com today that you can fix the signal issues with a wristband - here
Also, I see Apple have admitted there is an issue with their formula for displaying signal strength - here

I would say that lining up would be a great experience though, it would be like going to the training sessions - meet lots of like minded people which is always good!

oh, I won't be lining up for one, never owned an iPhone and don't plan to - I simply cannot justify the cost of it for the amount of time that I would spend using it.  They are fun to play with though (friends iPhone's).

I (and my husband) presumptively sold our iPhone 3Gs (not to be confused with 3GS)  before they drop in price when more people upgrade, and I can tell you I really miss my baby already.

Once you've owned one, you'll never want to be without a smartphone again.  I had to resort to copying out a map from Google the other day oh the indignity!  And then there was that time I wanted to pull up someones address from my email.....oh that's fun on a keypad.  Even just txting is painful compared to the QWERTY.  Predictive my ass.  I said "lol" not "jok" damn it.

I went to the store near ASB in the Albany Westfield, and one of the salespeople there was very very keen to have me resign a contract, even going so far as to say they'd hold an iPhone 4 for me for 24 hours when they came out.  You might be able to do the same.

I guess I'll go back there when the pricing and availability is announced to see if I can hold them to that and do a preorder.

I'm sure part of the signal problem is the networks overseas being spread to thin, but probably compounded with "other things"...but that's off topic anyway, let's keep this thread on the launch!
:)
As for the "On Account" question you could sign up for the account or port a number etc after lining up for the 3G so I don't think the 4 will be any different.

FYI If I have to line up for 8-hours I'll do it
Haha

Seems like all the Aussie sites think it'll be released on Friday 23rd in the morning.
(mactalk forums etc)
