It is interesting to see that when I checked today, iPad's on trademe and at the parallel import stores are still going for top dollar, like $100's more than the price they will be on Friday. I see a lot a dead stock comming up and the only way these people can shift then it selling them under Apples official price.

At $799 it's almost worth buying one of the base models, if I can find a real reason to use it!

I cannot see a real reason for the 3G model when Wifi is quite common, and more and more mobiles offer the ability to act as a Wifi access point.

I would love to know who from geekzone is going to get one. I might pop into Newmarket on Friday and check out the action (and the iPad's), anyone else keen?

Used and owned several Mac Computers but owning and using an iPad is something else...... love it.

I've been waiting and waiting for the ipad to come out. Going to buy the 64g 3g one. BUT I'm out of the country for a week the day they launch. AGGGHHHHH. Someone is out to get me!

Am I right in assuming that these will be available for ordering first thing on Friday morning from Apple.co.nz?

I managed to obtain my own iPad a couple of weeks ago in Australia, but I need to get another one for a competition that we're running at work. Considering the difficulties I had in getting one in Australia I'm conscious of the fact that supply will be very limited when the initial NZ launch happens, and I don't want to miss out but I don't have time to stand in a queue either.

I would have guessed that pre-orders could have been made prior to the release, but time for that is quickly running out. Having to order Friday morning would suck, as delivery would probably be Monday, and standing in queue for the probably limited units would just be setting oneself up for dissapointment.

Of course, Apple could prove me wrong, after all iPad's are available in lots of places overseas, perhaps they have a decent quantity?

Time will tell...

On the late news last night (TV!) they said that stores selling the iPad would be named on Friday morning.

i was originally going to get the wifi only model, but you dont get GPS with that. that may come in handy, so 3g 32gb (or 64gb if no 32gb stock) for me.

Isn't that typical NZ - name the stores the morning they are supposed to be selling them!

But we already know (more or less) that Magnum Mac in Newmarket will have them, and I guess Dick Smith will (it has always been Apple friendly and is a large enough chain to actually buy more than just a couple).

Then there's Harvey Normam etc.....

Ah, I forgot the GPS functionality was tied up with the 3G chipset, good point.

Still, means another SIM card, but I guess prepaid will do and you can still use Wifi from a mobile to maintain a single data plan....

I quite like the idea of having GPS but I just found this info on how to use your 3GS as a wifi AP.
The fact that I already pay for data on my phone and there are bluetooth GPS recievers, why bother with the extra $200.

And isn't it the best weather for it! rain, rain and more rain in Auckland today!

Funny thing is, right across the road there is a parallel import shop that sells iPads, he could buy one today (at a higher price) rather than camping in the cold and wet on Broadway for 2 days.....

Or maybe he's a week early for the iPhone!!!!
