Well after years of fence sitting I have jumped camps to Apple from Android its going to be a Christmas present have the Blue Pro Max 256GB ordered.

I'll have something new to learn over the break

Any recommendations on magnetic vehicle mounts.

Also coming from an in screen finger print scanner how does face unlock work with Covid masks, will I need to enter a pin to unlock?

You will need to enter your PIN unless you have an Apple Watch, in which case scanning of the eyes plus the presence of your Apple Watch is sufficient to unlock your iPhone.

Oh I know this one. I have a 13 (regular) with an Apple Silicon MagSafe case. I picked up a Mophie Snap vent mount and it's brilliant. I just shove my phone at it and it snaps onto the mount easily and starts charging. Works very well and I can definitely recommend. I bought mine from PB on sale for $62.

And yes with a mask on you'll likely have to enter your pin to unlock. Unless you get an Apple Watch too and then the phone will unlock when you have a mask on

I got the abyss blue silicon case and I have the blue phone and it looks great!

Cheers,
Joseph

There are lots of weird fixes for Face ID scan with mask on, all over the internet and, to me, seems more hassle than its worth. Just remember, when using PayWay and FaceID with mask to just double click the on/off right side button and up will pop the pin pad.

Do these mounting devices not obstruct the air vent?

Thanks everyone your comments are super helpful and appreciated; I was surprised today and my phone arrived early it was predicted to arrive maybe before Christmas.  While I was at Noel Leeming I picked up the Journey Mount https://journeyofficial.com/products/magnetic-wireless-car-charging-mount I'll see how this goes.

Okay looks like an Apple Watch is on the Horizon for me then :) I'm not complaining though as I was thinking of getting one.

So Christmas will be fun moving over all the contacts etc.  its a whole new world, thanks FineWine for welcoming me to the club s there a secret handshake involved ;).

There’s an Android to IOS app that will transfer your data across and will app match too and bring them across. Way better than doing it manually.

That sounds great for holding the phone but I guess, if you use CarPlay and don't have wireless CarPlay, even though it charges the phone you still need to connect the phone to the car with a cable.

I need a cable - Mrs Code has wireless 😢

Move from Android to iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

No but I collect the  stickers that come with most of Apples equipment. I have two on the sides of my Kia back spoiler. I would like to put one top dead centre on the front windscreen but my partner wont let me ☹️ but it does make finding our car amongst all the other similar white SUV's in a carpark a bit easier.

Yeah, don't do this. It's absolutely useless, just manually set it up. It's infinitely quicker.

Siri keeps coming up when I press the side button even though I only want to wake the device. It seems that holding the button for a millisecond too long causes it to active Siri rather than just waking.

I thought I would update this for the benefit of anyone who may be reading this thread in the future.

My side button seems to have two failure modes which I assume are probably related:

  • When the device is sleeping a brief single press of the side button usually wakes the device as intended, but sometimes activates Siri instead. i.e. the device treats the single press as if it were a long press. This never occurred on my XS Max but frequently occurs on my 13 Pro.
  • When the device is sleeping a brief single press of the side button sometimes yields no response. Pressing the button a second time brings up the wallet. i.e. two separate and distinct presses are being treated as a double press. This frequently occurred on my XS Max but rarely occurs with my 13 Pro.

After some extensive testing over the last couple of months I have been able to determine that the fault only occurs when the 'tap to wake' option is disabled within the accessibility settings. The problem doesn't appear to be widespread so it's likely that it's being caused by a combination of this setting, plus some other setting or environmental factor. Either way I'm convinced it's a software bug.

Jumped across from Android S10+ to a iPhone 13 this morning.

Ready for some thing different! Once work is finished for the day I can start my customisations!
