I think you have the same problem as what happened to me. Close iTunes, execute the code in terminal as per the guide, but then use the ipcc that is mentioned in the *PC* guide. It works exactly the same as the Mac one. This shouldn't be blacked out (if it is, you're doing something wrong).

Don't unzip, rename it to Telecom_nz.ipcc by right clicking on it and selecting Get info.

nzbullet was the one that enlightened me :).

Jailbreaking isn't legal but it (allegedly) voids your warranty and can potentially "brick" the device.

Nothing else I don't think.

Hello I just thought I would let people know what I did to get mms working on my iPhone 3G. Yesterday I went into a telecom store to try get some help. All they could do was reset the mms settings on my sim. So we did that, I turned off my phone for about 30min and then turned on again and it worked. I had mms fully working, getting mms and sending.

I cannot get iTunes to select a file to update, have tried all command prompts as suggested by posters here. I just get the message 'the version you are using is up to date' when I press Shift + Check for Updates.

Using iTunes 8.2.1.6 with iPhone 3Gs.

edit: ^^^^ That means you're not using the shift key trick properly (or option on the Mac).

Hoping you meant isn't illegal.. ;)

It's so incredibly unlikely that you'll brick an iPhone by Jailbreaking it's not funny. DFU mode is available at such a low level than you can restore the device without much worry.

You need to hold the shift key down while pressing check for update. You'll then get a pop up box where you can look for the file.

I've tried holding down the shift key but still get the same message. I'll try different command prompts but am at a loss as to why this isn't working for me. Assume that Vista and iPhone 3Gs are both compatible with this method...

I read on the iphonewzealand page that teethering is disabled in 3.1... Has a fix been created? Also other forums are talking about teethering AND mms being disabled... Please can someone confirm what does and doesn't work for the xt ipcc on 3.1

are you running windows or macosx?

3.1 is beta only and tethering ts actually broken as far as I can tell, not disabled
we will have to wait until 3.1 comes out properly not beta

Everything except for Tethering works on 3.1 beta 2, unless Apple make further changes this will remain in 3.1 final.

As soon as we know the fix for tethering (if there is one) we will post it.

Its method set by Apple to change what you restore from, It would most likely work with any OS that iTunes does. What other command prompts?

Hold "SHIFT" while clicking "Restore" or "Update", I just checked on the Apple website and it hasn't seemed to change?
