Do you have "Data Roaming" enabled? What version OS are you using?

Prepaid/Postpaid?

Thanks irSilentone - I didn't realise I could update carrier settings via the restore button. In all the guides I read people had used the 'check for updates' button. I guess this means I would have to restore my firmware and resync data as well??

Thanks

On my iPhone 3G I use direct.telecom.co.nz as apn for data because internet.telecom.co.nz doesn't work for me. You could try this.

If you held shift and clicked "Update" it will keep all the data on there and only upgrade the firmware.

How-ever if you hold shift and click "Restore" it recovers your unit to factory default and installs the new firmware :)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I fixed it by restoring the iphone then going to Settings\General\Reset and then I reset the Network Settings then I entered all the info manually and got it working.
After that i applied the XT Carrier setting to get the logo and is all good now.

Cheers

In case anyone else has had the same issue - I could not install the carrier bundle on my Vista laptop. I tried for a week or so then gave up. It worked straight away on my XP Desktop.

I had no trouble installing the carrier bundle on my Vista desktop. Haven't tried to install it via my Vista laptop as yet, but I will see how it goes next update (if there is one) or when I finally get around to syncing my iPhone to my laptop.

I bought a 3GS from apple online, got a SIM card from telecom today and chose prepaid, texts and data. Telecom loaded what they had to  but could could not get data / emails (.xtra) to work.

They referred me to this site and I downloaded pc-itunes-fix.zip onto my Vista laptop. Went through the process but when I held down SHIFT and clicked all I got was "the iphone software 3.0.1 was the current version.

When I try to get into data I get the reply "Could not activate celluar data network: You are not subscribed to a celluar data servive."

When I try to get emails I get the same reply.

Can anyone help a 50yo guy out in plain english

have you been through the jail break and unlock process?

You will need to get onto google and get purplera1n, redsn0w, or ultrasn0w onto your PC and then go through the whole jailbreak and then unlock process.

Hi tonybarkley,

Do not listen to the above poster. Jailbreaking voids your warranty and is potentially unsafe (yes I did it, shoot me) and there is no need to unlock as all iPhones in NZ are unlocked at factory.

You don't need to use this carrier file to use cellular data on your iPhone. It just makes the whole setup nicer, despite the steps being rather daunting.

On your phone, navigate:

Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network

Under APN for Cellular Data put "internet.telecom.co.nz" (without quotes) as pictured here:

Simple as that.

By doing the carrier bundle method it will automatically fill in all the required things for it to fully function on the XT network and change some hidden things you can't do manually.

Good luck!

If your SIM is working ok and you can make calls then yes you need to set the APN etc as above...

I was under the impression your phone was locked...

Sorry for confusion
