For some reason Shift+Check for update doesn’t always work on Vista, some people report success and others are having issues. I think this is an isolated issue to a few users.

There are reports that these two fixes *may* work:

1.Right clicking iTunes.exe, clicking on the compatibility tab and checking the “compatibility enabled” tick box allows you to ‘Shift+Check for update’, however yesterday, when I tried this, it just refused to start iTunes.

or

2. Run iTunes as administrator.
- That means right click ur itunes program icon and press the option ‘run as administrator’
- Typically speaking the option doesn’t appear for shortcuts so open up your itunes program folder:

Computer > Local Disk C > Program Files > Itunes

Then right click on the file thats named ‘Itunes.exe’; then click ‘run as administrator’ wait for it to load and go through all the notifications, sometimes it says theme has been changed and vista home premium or business etc. looks like vista basic. Don’t worry, now use the shift + restore option.

This will only work once, and then you will have to close iTunes and reopen as administrator

Any other fix?…..Unfortunately at this stage you will need to find someone with either a Mac or XP/Win7 and use their machine.

I have managed this on Vista without having to either of the processes above so as I say it is isolated to a few cases. If anyone else knows the answer please let us know.

Cheers

Has anyone been able to setup Google Calendar with the SMS alerts? I go into it but never receive my validation code. I can swap out to a 2degree's sim and the validation code (to the 022 #) comes through instantly.

I can receive txt's from the UK and can also send myself a txt from my US Based Google Voice number so know it's not a general overseas txt issue.

Cheers,

Rick

Does this carrier file still work with the new iTunes update?

Have just tested now -- yes, it works the same as the previous version.

Can someone please confirm that the XT Carrier File can be uploaded on a brand new Iphone 3G or 3GS that already has 3.1 installed? So the tethering wont work but everything else will? Keen to buy a 3GS but I read that they now come with 3.1 already installed so would hate to be stuck using Vodafone only.

Has anyone been able to get tethering working on OS 3.1 yet? Does the introduction of AT&Ts carrier file perhaps lead the way to XT getting an "official" carrier file signed too? Anyone contacted Telecom to find out what they have to say about this given they openly invited Iphone owners to switch to their network?

Until Telecom become an official carrier (if they ever do, by selling the iPhone) they will not get a signed tethering-capable IPCC file.

It's tough luck for those lured over. You should have stayed at 3.0.1, it's been a well known fact tethering would be broken in 3.1.

Has anybody had luck with the ipcc carrier bundle on 3.1 (jailbroekn phone) and the XT logo? I used to have 3.0 and had the nice XT logo, on 3.1 it doesn't appear.
