It's tough luck for those lured over. You should have stayed at 3.0.1, it's been a well known fact tethering would be broken in 3.1.

I havent changed to 3.1 for this reason..I was just wanting to know when it might be safe to do so as there are improvements in 3.1 that we might want to make use of (podcasts sorted correctly, augmented reality apps)

netshare app still works (if you were lucky to get it before apple pulled it), also there's an app on Cydia that you can use to share your net connection via wireless.

Do you have coverage? Are you on a data plan? What error do you get? "It doesn't work" isn't very helpful.

Here is a fix to gey your XT logo back on 3.1, kudos to maknz for finding the edit. Sorry if this is posted up already, tl;dr.

Install ssh (this should be installed by default already), nano, (optionally mobile Terminal) from Cydia. Fire up Terminal on your iPhone or SSH into your phone.
10.1.1.3 is my phone's IP, use your own - obviously.

enter the stuff in bold:

ssh root@10.1.1.3
root@10.1.1.3's password: *******

if you are using mobile terminal skip above steps.

cd "/private/var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles/"
cd Telecom_nz.bundle/
nano carrier.plist

in nano change:

<key>CarrierName</key>
         <string>Telecom NZ</string>

to

<key>CarrierName</key>
         <string></string>

control-o, control-x to save your settings

reboot

wait for phone to reboot. I recommend using ssh toggle (found in cydia) to turn of the ssh daemon.

Change the apn from wap.telecom.nz to internet.telecom.nz

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Hey thanks for your time and help. I have made those changes and done it in both the Cellular Data APN box and also the MMS APN box but alas still no joy.

Call 123 if your on postpaid, or 0800 32 32 32 if you on prepaid and ask them to confirm if you have data services active on your line. Can you try your SIM in another phone?

That's internet.telecom.co.nz I missed out the .co. For some reason the carrier bundle sets mine to wap that doesn't work. Leave mms as it is.

I will have a chat to nzbullet from iPNZ. I don't really see a reason why not, except for not many people would require it.
