Unscientifically, LTE and WiFi seems much better on my XS Max than on my X. Always used to get stuck on Spark 3G at the gym (in central Auckland) but now seems to be hanging on to 4G. WiFi never used to reach the bathroom well before, works great now. :P

Dulouz: I love Face ID, the only restriction is it doesn't like sunglasses.

I've never had problems with multiple pairs of glasses, even ones with mirror lenses

Just tested - doesn’t work with my Rayban Wayfarers other glasses are ok

I initially found that it had problems with my X and my glasses - after you enter the passcode it is supposed to train Face ID to recognise the new appearance. After a few days it would recognise me with glasses no problems.

On the XS Max I set up the 'alternative appearance' with me wearing glasses and it recognises it every time now. (with both wayfarers & clubmasters)

How does Apple manage to get a purchase (at the same time) of 6 items to be 7 payments? Been seeing them charge silly amounts (that doesn't correspond to the items) all week.

First they don't charge the full amount for the phone, then charge right amount for some other items, and then not charge the full amount for the watch. The whole thing looks like number scrabble.

Would have been nice if they charged for at least the shipments and in a way that made sense.

“ChargeGate” Looks like this is a thing and it’s quite widespread, I tested my XS Max and it happens intermittently, sometimes it charges straight away and other times it doesn’t. I’ve never noticed as I use a wireless charger. Would get annoying and for a $2k+ device this is pretty unacceptable.

Looks like a software glitch so should be easily patched.

I noticed my older gen phone has this problem occasionally with ios12. The other 'gate' is 'selfie-gate' where the front camera on the new models seem to be running faces through some form of smoothing filter that can't be disabled. Guessing a software fix will come out for it too.

Saw that too, I hate photos so I’d be happy with no front facing camera ;-)

Got my wife to test it and she can notice some form of beauty mode happening. Looks really fake and unnatural

Well so far I have had no issues with my XSMax.

Charge as it should: Ok

Speaker quality: Ok (I did have an issue with my iP7+ where the speaker went, it was replaced under warranty without a problem)

Selfie smoothing: No idea, don't do selfies

Speed issues (connection): Same as iPX

I am loving the screen, while the Block has been on I have been watching Amazon Prime in bed. The screen is a thing od beauty. The battery life is a little disappointing, the first day it got down to 20% by bed time, this is normal as it processes everything after restoring from a backup, the second day had 35% at bed time, however this has dropped to 20% and needing a charge if I go to bed late, this is the same life as my X.

The camera is great, bit I am not a fan of how artificial the photos look, especially in low light. My daughter looks like she has doll complexion. In better light however the photos are amazing.

Can anyone comment on the likely returns policy for the new Apple Watch? I’m totally stuck on which size to go for and haven’t been able to find sample models to try before I buy. If I buy the 44mm and decide that it’s just too big fir my wrist, where will I stand on exchanging it for a smaller one? Or a different color for that matter?

Thanks dfnt, I’ve literally just gotten off the phone with them and had this confirmed directly. That certainly makes it a bit easier for me to bite the bullet!

I had a play with one in the WHS over the weekend. The selfie look is definitely a bit weird - it's the opposite of my Pixel 2 where it fells like the HDR detail + the dull screen makes you look half dead.

Yeah, it is quite a generous return policy given the cost of their devices!

It's because of the cost of their devices they can afford such a generous return policy!
