Several tech commentators have suggested that users hold off pre-ordering the X on the basis that it is an untested first gen model with significant new tech and, at the moment, no real-world user experiences. They are not suggesting don't buy, just hold off for a bit to see how it performs after release - if all good, then jump in. Of course, the downside to this approach is that you don't get the phone on day one.
A recent example is the newly released Essential Phone. On paper, this is an outstanding piece of kit, yet following release the software has shown to be buggy, camera performance poor and the titanium case not as super-tough as promoted. Of course, a major difference is that Apple have significant experience in the mobile market, but do you see any risk in buying an untested newly developed X? Or are you not worried?
Good points. The day one theme is a bit silly although Ive been guilty in the past. At these prices, let someone else beta test. If NZ is weeks after the US thats a help
Apparently there were only small queues outside apple stores in Oz, unlike previous years. I feel a bit sad about that, but I guess it is because the 8 is so similar to the 7, and the main phone this year is the X, so most people seem to be holding out for that. But looks like that is going to have quite limited supply initially. I suspect some people waiting for the X may not get it initially and may end up getting the 8. If I was spending that sort of money I would buy the X, because it is an OLED screen and looks better using newer technologies, and doesn't look like an iPhone 6. They could have had the 8 more appealing IMO if they had modernised it a bit and increased the screen ratio. But I would wait until the next gen of the X that fixes any problems with the new form factor. I just wonder if they will continue with the old iPhone form factor on next years models. I am guessing next years iPhone X will be called the X2.
