Hmmm (thanks Mauricio).

@ sbiddle - support and sharing across Vodafone in different countries is obvious from their advertising initiatives...
shown by "Make the most of now", the mosquitoe ad etc... and even down to the look/feel of the corporate websites.

I'm not so much interested in the networks in this country - 'cos let's face it - there are only two.
As much as we like to think we are world-beaters - and many industries we follow the pack. (not like the sailing, nzbnw...!)

I WAS particularly interested in what people thought of the article I pointed to - and the overall impact of an un-announced product.

Mauricio - I don't agree that the iPhone is an iPod with calling functions... otherwise they would have stayed with the existing iPod model... but this is just a perspective thing. Are Smartphones a PDA with a phone - or a Phone with a PDA. Apple ARE however banking heavily on the success of their iPod.

Thanks all for the interesting comments - even the disagreements about network types. It's all good information (the correct statements) that I simply don't know.
(I'm a web-geek not a telco geek).

Oh - and Mauricio - MUCH respect. I am finding that a lot of users here are a little arrogant and not well tempered.
You on the other hand appear very level-headed and considered.
I admire and appreciate that.

From the official Apple iPhone website: "iPhone is a widescreen iPod with touch controls that lets you enjoy all your content ", and that's how I see it.

For me, Smartphones are those that can run native applications with the help of an OS. A feature phone for example run managed code such as J2ME applications. As for PDA functionality, almost all phones have PIM features such as contacts, calendar and e-mail. Some more sophisticated than others, but that's when they support more memory, application development frameworks, etc...
