What happens if you don't ave a computer, as supposedly you don't need to have a computer to have a newer idevice?

You don't need a computer but it is faster as you don't have to download everything from scratch during a restore. If you use iCloud backup (which you should) you can restore your phone from that.

If I have used about 35Gb of storage on my iPad would that mean that iCloud would need to download 35Gb of data to restore a backup? For those with huge data caps and ultra fast broadband I could see it being a good option, but for the rest of us it's not a very workable solution.

Hey, I'm basically a newbie with Apple products.

This morning, had an update notice available for iOS7.1 pop-up on my iPhone 4. I decided to install it, but now it says my phone won't take my sim card as its the wrong carrier. I bought a iPhone 4 refurb model from Vodafone and had used a 2degrees sim card.

I've heard this quite few times with refurbed iPhones. It seems the "I am locked database" isn't updated correctly sometimes with refurbed phones.

Contact Vodafone and let them know and they should be able to resolve your issue.

Tried contacting them now. I mentioned to them what was going on, but then he was telling me Vodafone had the right to network-lock phones, but I thought it was illegal for them to do so. He told me to call another number as he was not allowed to touch my IMEI number but they are closed till tomorrow, so have to just wait i guess.

There is no legal or illegal about locking phones in NZ (As far as I know). It is just Vodafone/Telecom's Policy that iPhones sold in NZ are not locked and I don't think Vodafone/Telecom can actually carrier lock or unlock iPhones anyway.

Its just a mistake that someone made when Vodafone send you a refurbished iPhone so Vodafone have to contact Apple and get it resolved (Johnr will be able to tell "how things actually work")

I haven't had problems, but you could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

The only issue I've had reported to me was that some people who edit their Hotspot APN Details, that they don't save for some reason.

Each Carrier specifies to Apple what APN Settings are viewable whilst using their Sim Cards.

What you can try is go to my website http://www.unlockit.co.nz from your iPhone and Choose NZ/2Degrees and it will set the APN Settings and this will set the Data APN Settings in via profile but its strange its incorrect on your iPhone (unless you have a profile there at the moment which is incorrect)

Assuming you wanted to download all your apps again, yes. Like I said, you don't need a computer, but it is faster :-)

Between DropBox, SkyDrive\OneDrive and iTunes Match, I've never had more free room on my iDevices before.

Where does it says that the 2degrees website the APN should be blank?

http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/settings/iphone says internet.

Saying tall that.. the 2Degres Built in/the ones which come from Apple APN Settings should work as the APN Settings in them say the APN is set to internet as well
