Apple sim looks interesting. Will NZ networks support it in the future?

Talks about it on the US and UK Apple sites, but no mention of it on the NZ site at all that I can see. So I would say not in the immediate future, but just guessing.

Dav4122: I have a hand me down iPad 1 that is just now starting to miss home button clicks

the iPad mini 2 looks good to me, lower price with most of the same features as the new iPad mini 3

the Mini 3 is exactly the same except for TouchID = Mini 2 is much better value

the iPad mini mini = iPhone 6 Plus which makes more sense as a phablet IMHO than going 8"

Plus it has a faster processor and far better camera. The mini has become the new iPod touch. Crippled in features  so it doesn't cannibalise other more profitable products.

Probably apples most underwhelming update to the ipad line. Next year will be bigger, just hope the larger one has a pen.

definitely gimped it out so you buy a iPhone 6 plus or Air instead

Apple’s specs page for the iPad mini 3 says that it has the A7 processor, not the new A8 that debuted in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

tdgeek:Underwhelming, yes.

I disagree that the iPad Mini is crippled. Its just a small iPad that is all it is. Comparing to a 6 Plus is silly, its a small, convenient tablet, not a phablet, and the 6 Plus is roughly 45% the screen real estate. Two very diifferent devices.

Crippled is probably an overstatement.

But it should be called the iPad Mini 2.0.1, at best.

Crippled is probably not the right word, perhaps dated. Essentially it is using at least 1 year old technology. Everything that it has, it had 1 year ago, except for touch ID, and touch ID is over a year old anyway. Good that the ipad air has been been given hardware with the latest specs, such as a top camera.
Looks like the ipod line is pretty much cooked, nothing new, and the ipod touch is using a processor that is at least 3 generations old. The ipad mini is using one that is 1 generation old, but that was also the case when the original mini came out. Certainly makes the iphone 6 plus a more attrctive prospect over the mini, well apart from price. I wonder if they will end up ditching the mini, or it will become an ipod touch device that is a generation or 2 or 3 behind, as a low cost entry into ios.

As they are wide as well as long, we may get some cool convex/concave shapes!

Does anyone know when physical stores like Harvey Norman, DSE etc are going to have iPad Air 2s in stock and for sale?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Harvey Norman are showing a "coming soon" link on their website. DSE nothing and Noel Leeming nothing... Pitty I have Noel Leeming vouchers I need to use. Will probably just buy one through Apple tonight.

Update from last post. Just purchased a mini 2, very good price and only a couple of features different to the mini 3. Mini 2 is really good value at the moment.

Ordered iPad Air 2 128GB Cellular on Saturday morning from the Apple store. Says availability is 2-4 business days. Looks like the smart cover will arrive first, so that's awesome.

Huh.... I just realized that the Air 2 is actually thinner than the iPhone 6. Less than 1mm difference, but that is still 11% thinner. How did they manage to fit the camera in without it protruding when the couldn't for the iPhone 6 I wonder? It's the same camera isn't it?

I've been thinking along the same lines. Before now, the retina mini seemed way too expensive for a small tablet with limited storage and no possibility to expand the storage with microSD.

Now the 32GB mini 2 looks like a good deal.
Samsung might need to drop the price of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4.
