Geektastic:
Breitling have just replaced the Emergency with a new version that uses the new satellite PLB system as well as the old 121 transmitter for SAR location.

Aaaaand then you are talking USD 15,000. Personally I can't understand why you would spend that much money on ANY watch.

People can spend 10k on a gold watch, such as a omega or a tag, for a special occasion. But you would expect it to last at least 10 years, and they are often made to last, as my dad has an omega from the 60's and 8-0's (although not a 10k one !) and both still work. As the apple watch has tech that will become outdated very fast (eg who still uses an iphone 1 or 3g?), it will have a far shorter life.

I was all for spending around $500 on an Apple watch but for that I only get the non-sapphire screen, absolutely nasty-cheap looking band and the smaller one.

Well no thanks.

If the pebble had a heart rate monitor I'd have it in a second, even without it is a very close call, the big difference being I haven't ordered one yet!

I suspect many who will get the Apple Watch don't even know what a smart watch can do is or care about the cost, that sums it up for me money-mouth

The Pebble Time Steel includes a Smartband feature which will allow 3rd-party devices (e.g. heart rate monitor) to be connected to it.

Also 10 days battery life.

Be the first person on your street to own a gold smartwatch... it costs the same as the PTSs tongue-out

I'm not in any hurry to get another watch. Definitely not a smart watch right now.
Might wait till the 3rd or 4th gen apple watch, when its slimmer, looks better, battery lasts longer, does a bit more etc.

Also I'd only get the cheap one, because we all know it will be techno-junk after anywhere between 2-4 years.

Yes I saw the preview videos there and they look good, the first Smart watch that has really caught my interest. You can see more here   http://consumer.huawei.com/en/

Please note I am not employed by Huawei but my wife is a Huawei staff member.

groynk: ...

Features I want it for:
-Sports tracking, preferably without phone, but at least with phone tucked away safely.
-Any decent functionality that lets me leave my 6+ in my pocket, all the obvious touted stuff (can it make calls safely while driving?)
-Early adopter show off in the office haha

.....

Sound like what you want is a Microsoft Band, or a Fitbit Surge.

Warning: reality may differ from above post

Resale value for tech stuff doesn't really worry me, I give it away when I am finished with it. I wonder how many others do the same

Me too.

For budgeting purposes I fully depreciate these products over two years, hence why I find them significantly more expensive than something like whiteware, photographic or hifi equipment which I would fully depreciate over 5 - 10 years.

I think they look great but was to be expected. I won't be buying one obviously as into a different eco system but interested in what Apple come up with as it generally sets the bar a bit higher so good for consumers of all brands.

The battery time isn't a big issue people just need to realise it isn't just a watch so trying to make some comparison with a 'dumb' watch is ridiculous.

I have a couple of friends with heart conditions that are keen for something to use to monitor the heart as they are very active and also Iphone users so I'd be interested in the software as the sensors look great in comparison to other offering (Samsung included)

I had an issue with my gear 2 whereby it was water damaged and they are rated as IP67 so meant to go to 1 metre for 30 minutes but had never been submerged but gets wet often when cycling or sweating so water resistance is a concern.

Without seeing it operate it would be safe to assume its interface with the Iphone would be seamless so if I was using an Iphone I'd be in as I find my smartwatch very useful not just a geeky toy just the start of another step forward in technology.

Maybe easier to start a thread for Apple watch detractors so they can go  all tribal and stop cluttering up these types of threads  :)
