It should work at any contactless terminal, with any ANZ Visa or Mastercard branded plastic.

Debit or credit should not matter... but I haven't tested it yet!

Really excited about this. My card is now successfully enrolled (very easy), so time to go shopping in my lunch break.

I was nearly going to cancel my ANZ visa. Not anymore.

Countdown didn't play by those rules. Same with Kmart. They would have contactless readers but if you used a debit card it would say not supported or something and force you to insert the card. If you used a credit card however it would work fine. I havnt tried it in a long time because of that so I'm not sure if that's even a thing anymore. Was really annoying because you'd look like a fool when it said no haha

But given that Apple Pay only trasmits a token, there is no way for the terminal/retailer to know what the actual account being used is,

ashtonaut: Having issues adding my ANZ Visa (says not supported but it is), waiting for a call back from support. They said they are having a few teething issues.

Ditto yet my girlfriend's card (she is the primary holder of the account and I have a secondary car) worked after two attempts. Hopefully ANZ call be back with some good news.

I registered this morning. It was very easy for the Apple wallet to drag my CC details from iCloud. I've tried it twice so far. The results:

At Starbucks the transaction succeeded but the merchant copy of the receipt said "accept with signature" so I had to sign. Very odd.
At lunch I tried it in a local food court and the Apple Pay transaction was declined twice. I tried the linked card directly and that worked via PayWave.

I am having a DM with the ANZ via Twitter who are looking at it now.

Well ANZ got back to me saying there was no reason on their end for the decline. They said it may have been a "terminal error" and to let them know if this becomes an ongoing issue.

I've used my visa debit (card) PayPass at countdown and Kmart within the last several months in the Auckland region. Definitely works. There was a point in time however when they didn't accept PayPass (esp at countdown unless you had a countdown Visa card)

Sidenote, used my Apple Watch to pay for my subway today. It worked but the experience was a bit finnicky esp because I wanted to scan my Subcard as well through the iPhone app.

With the release of Apple Pay in New Zealand this may spur the local retailers to link their loyalty cards to the Apple Wallet also.

I seem to recall ANZ's Apple Pay page previously saying Mastercard as well, but they've either changed that, or I miss-remembered.

May have read ANZ Aus page? I did that the other day. They were visa only but later introduced MasterCard support.

Countdown has supported Debit cards via Paywave for a bit now, was around the time of Semble's release from memory.

2/2 successful attempts for me so far with my ANZ Visa (Credit). Countdown and Subway.

My preferred method at this early stage is the "double click the home button" which then brings up the PayWave screen and tells you if it needs your fingerprint again (if it hasn't already read it when you clicked the home button).

Only some types of Visa cards are supported (both Debit and Credit).
