Interesting news, wonder how many people will use it?

Uptake of their existing Android solution is pretty good (with only limited handset) support so I imagine it'll be pretty big.

Not a surprise with ANZ being the Apple Pay launch partner in NZ - seeing that over in Australia it was ANZ as well.

Shame it's not more banks at launch. NZ is ripe for contactless expansion. So many terminals all ready to go!

What's wrong with contactless cards that already exist? To need a $1200 phone to make a payment , vs a 5 cent piece of plastic doesn't do it for me. You still need a wallet when going out anyway.

Nothing wrong at all. Just nice to have another option if you have your phone in your hand or your watch on your wrist. I'd see it as more complimentary to a credit card more than anything.

Way more secure than the bit of plastic to start with.
- your actual credit card details are never exposed to the merchant, temporary ones are assigned for each transaction.
- fingerprint ID before transaction goes ahead.
- you can cancel the virtual cards using find my iPhone if you lose your phone, don't even need to contact the bank.

Just to name a few reasons why it's better.

You don't need a $1200 phone, the $750 iphone SE will do apple pay quite happily...

You could buy my iphone 6 for a fraction of that...

I wonder to what extend this legal challenge is delaying the rollout of Apple Pay in Australia and, ultimately, New Zealand? Apparently it involves "Australia's three largest banks" which I assume would include ANZ, so maybe they've given up and decided to go along with Apple's solution?

That's actually very interesing reading. It's very clear that Apple seem to have very little understanding of the Australian banking market - Australia already have the highest usage of NFC payments in the world, and yet take issue with the banks wanting NFC access because Apple don't think this is necessary. Other countries Apple are quoting (including the US) have minimal takeup of NFC in comparision.

The banks are NAB, commonwealth and westpac. ANZ along with Amex, are the only Apple Pay enabled bank in Australia, so it is logical Apple Pay would make its way the ANZ nz at some point. Surprised they Amex haven't jumped on board, but I suppose when ever I have tried to use my Amex card contactless it never seems to work anyway
