If Vodafone want to be deliberately obtuse about their pricing that's up to them, but they're not winning any friends in doing so.

I think thats a bit unfair. This has the potential to be one of the biggest launches for any telco for a while so it's not suprising that vf want to stick to their release plan in terms of pricing announcements etc. Frustrating for geeks keen to find out pricing but understandable nontheless.

I think its important not to let impatience blur your perspective.
Personally I want the iPhone NOW! and I want to know the price! and i want it NO MATTER WHAT!!

...but thats not gonna happen now, is it? we just have to sit back.. take a deep breath.. and be patient (its not long now)

The new casual GPRS plans are a sign of things to come. Vodafone is making alot of changes, and with sensitive subjects, they live by the motto "loose lips sink ships" and therefore dont let there retail staff know every juicy detail (as im one of them)

On a personal note, please dont get upset when we cant tell you the exact price or availability details in store.. we honestly dont know!

O i hope they have them in the dunedin store on launch day as some times it takes a while for things to get down here! it would be good it you could preorder like ya can when games consoles launch.

i just read the article in the link at the start of the post saying stores will open in auckland, wellington and christchurch. NO DUNEDIN O NO!!!! I hopes thats just no midnight launch not no iphones in Dunedin

Ok, here is an easy on for you Paul.

Does VF have enough or is it getting enough phones on hand to cover expected demand in the first week of the iphone 3g release in NZ, for current VF customers first, telecom switchers second and new customers third?

And if your answer is yes, how are you estimating demand?

I think it's fair to say that there will have been way more people sign up on the website than iphone 3g's that VF will get.

But then again, heaps of them probably won't even go ahead and get one anyway!

Did any get an email update on the iPhone today? It was nothing interesting really, which pretty stated the obvious: there will be limited units (as is the case worldwide), plans will be announced soon, and NZ will be one of the first to get the iPhone.

Here's the email I got:

I really hope the new plans come out sooner rather than later - I really can't wait to see how NZ's iPhone 3G plan compares with other country.

I was talking to a business rep the other day and I asked him about the availability of the iphone on launch date. Although he said he knew very little, he did say that he had heard that Apple was only providing half the amount of iphones that Vodafone NZ had ordered. This being the case there is sure to be a shortage.

Another question for Paul then. Given that it looks like iphones will sell out on launch day, when could those who miss out expect the next shipment in?
