I've managed to get Exchange working on my iPhone 1st gen just now, seems to work well, contacts are syncing, as is the calendar. That's about all I use exchange for so I'm happy to be able to use my work email on my iphone without being tethered to iTunes whenever I want to sync some updated contact info etc. MobileMe works well too - pushes personal email straight to my pocket.

I'm stoked with how well the 2.0 upgrade has gone. Only hope that 2.0.1 goes as well once Apple decide they're going to iron out the operational issues with the current firmware.

The reason is (and this was from an Apple engineer at WWDC'08) is that under the new US accounting laws for public companies, companies are not allowed to give away free any product which also appears as an asset on their books. The iPhone firmware updates are OK because they are covered by a subscription model, whereas the iPod is an outright purchase. It seems if you are an iPod owner who resents paying for the update, you can curse Kenneth Lay and Enron for this one.

I'm trying to upgrade to 2.0, however when I go to build the custom .ipsw pwnagetool does not ask me to locate the bootloaders.
Should this prompt come up straight after I click the blue arrow button, or does it come up some time during the .ipsw is being built?

Yeah, I've done quite a few (like 10 iPhones 1st Gen). Never encountered any problems at all. I didn't include Cydia, it slows down the iPhone sometimes. App Store has got some pretty good stuff, mostly FREE. :)

I used Winpwn, iTunes 7.7 and the firmware iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw

I might have a crack 2nite. I use ziphone to get to 1.1.3. So I presume I use winpwn to restore the phone first then back up?
Man I cant remember what version BL I had either haha.

and I'm getting an 1600 error on itunes during the restore.. had these issues before?

Should the sim card be in the phone during restore?

Never had that problem in Windoze XP. I also read a lot of people had problems with Vista.

You can remove the sim card during restore. The problem is that your phone has not been properly set into recovery mode.

It seems to go into DFU mode as Itunes recongnizes it.... failed after about 5mins.

I'm currently ziphone 1.1.3 so do I need to blow that away first?

I plugged it into the laptop.. held power and home untill it turned off then help home untill the window poped up in itunes.. did take ages to get it right. But the screen was blank.

I've got 2.0.0.3 so its meant to be fixed. I'll try on my work xp machine now and see how I go
