EDIT: YOU CAN NOW RUN THE 2.0 FIRMWARE ON A 2.5G iPHONE BY USING PWNAGE 2.0. To download it at check here for links (this is tool does require some basic knowledge, most should be just fine) http://blog.iphone-dev.org

I can confirm the 2.0 firmware works perfectly,

2.5G iPhone running the 2.0 software, using PwnageTool 2.0.1 on vofa NZ prepay.

DON'T UPGRADE TO 5A345!!!

I've just spent an hour getting it back to 1.1.4

But I can tell you the upgrade takes a long time, the IPSW is 200mb+

If you upgrade to 2.0, iTunes tells you to activate with AT&T and there's no jailbreak or activation bypass yet.

If you need to get back to 1.1.4 intructions are here

Hopefully a jailbreak will come out soon!

you were using itunes 7.7? There are no other carriers available in the activation apart from at & t?

Makes sense considering its an american version of the firmware, which isn't officially released yet. Ziphone and Pwnage won't be long in cracking 2.0 so just be patient and it'll be sweet

Yes I can confirm this! I just did the upgrade and failed, iTunes 7.7 says that the SIM card inserted is not supported, I have tried with both Prepay and on account SIM's and still no go.

Maybe when it goes official it may support???

Yer, hoping that when it goes official it will change. None the less there is nothing to worry about, i read that the iphone dev team have successfully jailbroken so maybe they will release coinciding with the official release LOL

Just discovered that a new 2.0 build has been released (5A347), havn't tried upgrading to it - i'm not even going to go there haha

If you check out the iPhone Dev teams blog at http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ they have apparently jailbroken the final 2.0 release and are about to release a new pwnage tool.

They've also got screen shots showing installer right next to the app store icon!

I just tried using the official 2.0 firmware that is now availiable and still the same denial in itunes which says "The sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported".

It looks like this firmware update is only designed for 2.5 phones used in america. I take it we will have to wait for the unlockers to work their magic and publish their software so we can get our hands on it and unlock our phones for use here with the new 2.0 firmware update.

what about itunes 7.7 latest version if we update to that and NOT the 2.0 on the original iPhone (mine is unloacked with Ziphone)
what will happen... will Itunes alone stuff it up?

It is VERY hard to downgrade back to 1.1.4. if you are bricked at 2.0 DON'T WORRY! Pwnage 2.0 is due to be released in a couple of days, check out http://blog.iphone-dev.org

This new jailbreaking unlocking tool will hopefully work

If you are bricked at 2.0 and want to downgrade to 1.1.4 ive updated the tutorial here.

The interesting thing is that if you have an IPOD touch with jailbroken software and you check for updates in Itunes it will ask you to pay US$9 for the upgrade to 2.0.

The Iphone 2.0 firmware upgrade doesn't ask for this - wonder why?

because Apple charges for the ipod touch update but not the iphone one for some reason only known to them
