I'm thinking of moving from android to Apple, phone and tablet. The Air 4 looks great...except, I wish Apple would stop their practice of deliberately downgrading resolution with their 'lower than flagship' offerings for phones and tablets. The Air 4 comes in lower res than the pro and would be a resolution downgrade from my 2-year old Huawei tablet. Yet the cost of transitioning to a Pro phone and ipad just to get decent resolution is prohibitive.

And is the move to USB C a forerunner for the new phones?

I hope so. It would be great to standardise everything and get rid of the lightning port.

eracode:

The biggest single improvement Apple could make to ATV is to supply a half-way decent, non-minimalist remote.

I don't have any problem with the buttons on the remote now, just the fiddly crappy touch pad. It really is a solution in search of a problem.

The Firestick 4k  remote is much nicer so I use that more often.

I keep an eye on the youtube channel "EverythingApplePro" for rumours and one I've seen pop up a few times is Apple is intending to make the iPhone port-less, that'll work once they start supplying wireless chargers (instead of reliance on 3rd party ones) and everyone supporting eSim.

Have been looking myself and was surprised that they would have put a lower resolution in the new air - from the site:

iPad Air: https://www.apple.com/nz/ipad-air/specs/
10.9-inch (diagonal) LED‑backlit Multi‑Touch display with IPS technology
2360-by-1640-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi)

iPad Pro: https://www.apple.com/nz/ipad-pro/specs/
11-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Multi‑Touch display with IPS technology
2388-by-1668-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi)

Pretty close

The main problem with this is that most cars currently on the market require a wired connection to use CarPlay. Wireless CarPlay is in its infancy and it will take years for it to become commonplace across the vehicle fleet.

Ok, thanks, I stand corrected.

I was on a third party site that incorrectly reported the Air 4 resolution to the Pro.

It's looking better...

the more credible rumour is that Apple will stop supplying chargers. They are not supplying chargers with Watch Series 6, so that rumour seems real.

Still can’t see the point of the watch.

Rubbish battery life. How can it track sleep if you have to charge it at night?! It still seems like an expensive gimmick based on the assumption that everyone lives in a gym and is mentally unstable enough to need a watch to help them deal with stress that apparently we are all crushed by every day and unable to cope with.

Plus of course STILL no Vodafone cellular service for the watch or Esim.

In an Apple person. I have an $11,000 iMac Pro. I so want to like the watch but my Withings, with 30 day battery life and less than $400 price, is still more practical. Suunto and Garmin make better sports watches. Apple just seem obsessed with odd capabilities for the watch.

I'd be tempted to get the basic iPad if it wasn't for the ridiculous lightning connector.

I know there's an argument that they sell a lot of these to schools who'd want to stick to the same charging solution as their existing iPads.

And no doubt Apple would prefer that I bought an iPad Air instead.

But even so, lightning is going the same way as Firewire and it's about time they did the decent thing and put it out of its misery.

I suspect proprietary Dongles and cables have a much higher margin than the rest of the business,

I've had an Apple Watch for about 4 years now.

I came from Pebble that had incredible battery life for a smart watch.

I don't have an issue with the AW and its battery life - I charge it when I am in the shower and again just for the last hour of the night before I go to bed. It always lasts for a whole day and I never get the low battery warning.

I don't even miss the Pebble anymore - I thought I would and initially (4 years ago) I did have battery anxiety, but I've been away on holidays and all sorts of things and never once worried.

I don't find it gimmicky or unnecessary and have come to rely on it for discrete notifications (my watch and phone are permanently on silent) and I am able to reply from the watch to messages, hold conversations using either the watch itself (i.e. in the car) or using my AirPods.

I agree that eSIM compatibility needs to come to both VF and 2D now. It's been a long time and the cellular models are wasted on my as I will never be a Spark customer.

I wear my watch 22 hours a day and have 50% battery when I get up in the morning. I charge it while I shower/eat breakfast and I'm good to go again. That's with a Series 5 with always-on display enabled. I also track runs with it 3 days a week.

Personally, I have most notifications switched off as I do on my phone so I don't get constantly bothered by it. I find that it has the best daily activity tracking I've used (have used Garmin, polar, android and Samsung). It integrates perfectly with my food tracking app (Lose It!) and I'm all in on apple so it just fits in with the rest of my stuff really well. Oh and having Shazam on your wrist is so good when you want to know what that song is.

Oh and also, esim is nothing to do with Apple or the watch, that's the Telco's not supporting it yet.
